Jared's words struck a chord with everyone, reminding them of the deep-seated issues yet to be resolved. "There's a long-buried thread behind all this," Naylor declared. "Godfather, you can count on me. I'll find the person responsible and make them pay dearly."
However, Reggie, turning his back to the group, kept his gaze fixed on a painting on the wall. After a moment, he waved it off, "Let it go, let it go. I've made too many enemies in the past. It could be someone from another gang, or perhaps a mole from The Obsidian Order back in the day. If we keep digging, who knows how many more will get involved. Let's just put this matter to rest."
Agnes was somewhat puzzled by this. It didn't seem like something Godfather would say. But, his point was valid. After all, it had been over twenty years. Even Kearney was a mystery to them; how could anyone else know more? Yet, something in Agnes's heart was still stirring, a clue just out of reach, almost tangible yet elusive.
They spent an hour in the study before Reggie finally decided. For now, Kearney would not be punished but confined to this island. This affair was deemed an internal matter for Albert's Arms. Reggie also resolved to personally reorganize Albert's Arms, rooting out Kearney's allies and those involved in past drug trafficking, forcing them to turn themselves in at the police station.
Of course, these plans were for later. Their immediate concern was treating Phenix's condition. Phenix, for reasons unknown, refused to leave the island, staying constantly by Kearney's side, ironically becoming Kearney's last line of defense. The situation was both tragic and ironic, but they were out of options.
Reggie instructed them on the next steps. Elton and Naylor were to return to Albert's Arms with him to deal with the traitors within. Agnes, however, chose to stay on the island. Firstly, to take care of Phenix, who now only she could look after. And secondly, to find Jarvis, who had escaped into the island's jungle the day before and hadn't been seen since.
The island was neither large nor small, and parts of the forest remained unexplored, hiding potential dangers and wild animals. The jungle's perimeter was fenced with electrified wire and high walls. Agnes wasn't sure if Jarvis had managed to breach the walls.
As Reggie was about to leave, he noticed a group of people in the hall. These were the island's domestic staff, including nannies and butlers, with Herbert Bain among them. Herbert was Kearney's personal assistant, previously in charge of the island's security. Elton and his team had subdued him upon arrival.
Naylor inquired, "Godfather, how should we deal with these people?" The nannies, trembling with fear, huddled together like a flock of quails. Herbert, however, stood firm, while Bain kept his head down, silent.
Kearney then said, "Agnes, since you'll be taking over the island, I'll leave these people in your hands." Agnes descended the stairs, approaching the group with a decisive stride.
