Heartstrings on Fire novel Chapter 1193

Agnes didn't say much in the end. However, deep down, there was a persistent feeling of unease. She couldn't shake the sense that things wouldn't simply end here. But since both Phenix and Kearney had left, there was no reason for her and Jared to remain on the island.

By midday, Agnes and Jared had left the island. Their first destination was Serenity Hall. Unbeknownst to them, Nocturne had already been residing there for nearly half a year. The little wolf cub had grown significantly, now living in the apothecary's cottage. Despite its origins, the cub was extremely gentle, unlike the fierce wolves of the plains. It resembled more an exceptionally intelligent wolfdog. It followed Esther and Nocturne around every day. Sometimes, when Nocturne was sleeping, it would lie down under the bed.

White, the wolf cub, was also very affectionate towards Agnes. Every time Agnes visited, it would approach her and lick her hand as if to show affection. Nocturne's hibernation issues had improved significantly. Although he still spent most of his time asleep, he occasionally woke up. The old man said that soon he would be able to attend school and live like a normal person. Agnes was extremely grateful.

After spending a night at Serenity Hall, Agnes returned to Willowbrook Town. Life seemed to settle back into a calm routine after the storm. Agnes had been through a lot during this time, but these experiences made her treasure her current life even more. It was mundane, yet peaceful.

Agnes had taken several days off, causing work to pile up. Even during lunchtime, she couldn't find the time to eat and dealt with tasks at her desk. Ramona packed a lunchbox for Agnes and brought it over. Then she sat next to her and started complaining, "Boss, while you were away, we got moved to the promotions team. But guess what? The team leader is Yolanda Bowman, and she's been taking her personal grudges out on us by assigning us a ton of tasks. Ben and I have been running around like crazy these past few days. Thankfully, you're back now."

Agnes frowned, "Why didn't you tell me? I could have asked Mr. Judson to move you guys out."

Ramona pouted, "Ben said you had a lot going on and didn't want to bother you. He thought we could just endure it until it was over."

Agnes said, "I should have arranged things better before I left."

Ramona suddenly smiled, "Don't say that. Everyone has their own issues, but now that you're back, we have someone to support us. I'll tell Director Bowman I'm quitting after covering a small news story this afternoon."

Agnes asked, "What news are you covering this afternoon?"

Ramona replied, "It's about Lakeside College's School of Media. Boss, isn't that where you graduated from? Apparently, Mrs. Wilson donated a building to the school and set up a scholarship fund. Rumor has it she dropped fifty million on it. Quite the grand gesture."

Agnes was indeed curious. Lakeside College's School of Media had produced many talents, and it wasn't uncommon for successful alumni to return and donate to the school. However, a donation of fifty million was unprecedented.

Ramona continued, "Boss, they say Mrs. Wilson is of Chinese descent and a former student of Lakeside College's School of Media. People like her are truly remarkable. So young and already at the peak of success. It's something you can't even aspire to. But there's no need for envy; she just had good fortune, married a world-class billionaire, and skyrocketed to the top. Now, with Mr. Wilson passed away, she's left with a vast inheritance, more than enough for several lifetimes."
