The call came from Amelia, of all people.
Ever since that memorable homecoming event, Agnes and Amelia had maintained contact. They were roommates back in their college days, and somehow, they had managed to rekindle their friendship.
"Agnes, do you have a moment?" Amelia's voice sounded unusually serious over the phone, prompting Agnes to sense that something was amiss.
"What's going on?" Agnes asked with a hint of concern.
"Agnes, if you're free, I need you to come to the university. There's some big news," Amelia said, her tone serious.
"What kind of news?" Agnes pressed, her curiosity piqued.
"Just come over, and you'll see," Amelia replied before abruptly ending the call.
Initially, Agnes didn't think much of it. However, Amelia's tone had left her feeling uneasy. After pondering for a moment, she decided to drive over to Lakeside College.
Lakeside College looked the same as it always had. It seemed as though no matter how much time passed, the comings and goings of countless students never changed the essence of the place. The only constant was the stone monument standing proudly at the entrance, a silent witness to the passage of time.
Returning to the campus always filled Agnes with a sense of nostalgia.
Amelia was now the Dean of Academic Affairs, a position of considerable respect. Agnes made her way straight to the administrative offices upon her arrival.
She spotted Amelia standing by the window, her profile marked by a look of deep concern. It was clear she was preoccupied with troubling thoughts.
The door was open, yet Agnes knocked out of courtesy.
"Agnes," Amelia greeted her upon turning around and spotting her at the door.
