But Elton's expression barely flickered with emotion. His gaze on Jenny was clear and sharp, as if he could see right through her. Elton's voice was firm, "Jenny, I'm going to say this one last time. My child has nothing to do with you. Don't bother Agnes anymore, and don't come looking for me. I don't want to see you, not one bit." With that, Elton turned and walked away.
Jenny watched his retreating figure, her fingers clenched tightly. Even with her current status, well above the rest, she seemed no different in Elton's eyes than the small-town girl she used to be. She had dressed up meticulously, hoping to dazzle him upon sight. But Elton had hardly given her a real glance, his attention always fixed on Agnes. There were many emotions swirling within him, none of which were because of her.
Over the years, it had always been Jenny who reached out to Elton. But Elton had always been cold to her. A flicker of resentment shone in Jenny's eyes, soon replaced by a gleam of satisfaction. It didn't matter. They had a child together. A child bonded by blood. What was there to fear? Hadn't she gone to great lengths to ensure the child was with Elton, if only for this moment? The child growing up by his side would become an emotional bond that couldn't be severed. But she was the child's mother. A smirk of triumph played on Jenny's lips. She turned and returned to her seat, beginning to dine with elegance.
After leaving Cloud View, Agnes headed to the Tim Tower, buried under a mountain of work. Jared had been staying late at the office every day. Agnes would join him for dinner almost every night after work. She had called earlier to say she had plans and told him not to wait. However, when Agnes arrived, Jared was still engulfed in work, his dinner from Leo untouched on the coffee table.
Agnes knocked on the door deliberately. Jared looked up. Seeing Agnes at the doorway brought an instant smile to his face. Jared's voice was soft, "Didn't you say you had dinner plans tonight? How come you're back so soon?" Agnes walked in, ignoring Jared's question, and sat on the sofa, opening the food container, "Why haven't you eaten yet? The food's gone cold."
Jared chuckled, "I forgot." Agnes sighed, "You always forget everything when you're working. Can money be earned forever? Your health is what matters most." Jared approached her, "Then come have dinner with me every day, and I'll never forget." Agnes stood up, "I'll heat up the food in the secretarial department's lounge, and we can have dinner together."
Jared was surprised, "You haven't eaten?" Agnes pondered for a moment, "Let's just say I didn't eat enough." They took the food to the lounge, where there was a microwave. Jared followed her. After heating the food, they sat at the lounge table with disposable utensils and began their dinner. Agnes was silent, lost in thought, while Jared could tell she was feeling down from the start. Jared asked, "Who did you meet tonight?" Agnes paused, then said, "Have you ever heard of Mrs. Wilson?"
