Her Second Chance novel Chapter 6

THE PAST.... HER BIRTHDAY.

OCTOBER, 24, 2013.

It was a dark and starry night. The Crescent pack house was filled with bustle. That was because Claude the daughter of the Alpha was celebrating her coming of age party! She was officially 18. Other packs were invited to the party.

The guests were all talking, and laughing in high pitched tones as they dug away at the food they were served.

The star of the night however wasn't to be seen. She was absent!.

Flustered, her mother hurried over to her room, and found her in front of her mirror.

"Claude dear, why aren't you downstairs yet?" Silver, her mother hurried over to her, and placed her hands on her shoulder.

"I'm nervous, mother. What if I make a single mistake?" Claude asked in a meek tone.

"Hush dear. Don't curse at yourself. You are supposed to be happy. It's a happy occasion." Silver smiled at her daughter.

"I know, but I can't ignore the gnawing feeling at the pit of my stomach. I can't place it." Claude leaned into her mother's body, trying to absorb her warmth.

Sighing, Silver patted her daughter's hair fondly. "Listen child. On the night when I was to officially turn 18, I was the most happiest girl in the pack. There was enough pomp and happiness on that particular day. Yours wouldn't be any different, I'm sure." Silver smiled.

"Alright mum." Claude stood up calmly, grateful for her mother's soothing and encouraging words. She was beautifully dressed in a blue open necked gown, which had a cinch at the waist. Shiny pearls ran along the hem of the dress, and the little parting at her chest, which exposed a little of her cleavage. The result was that she looked ethereal with the light make-up she had applied earlier on.

Her mother looked at her lovingly and in appreciation. "The celebration would be more beautiful, if you finally meet your mate. That was how I met your father. We became mates right on my 18 birthday." Silver smiled as she reminisced on the past.

"Really? Tell me about it." Claude asked, her interest had been piqued by her mother's words.

"I will. But only after you are done with the party. Now let's head downstairs." Silver held out her arm, gesturing Claude to link it with hers.

However, the door opened at that moment, and a smiling Xavier walked in. He looked handsome in his blue shirt, and equally blue pants to match.

"Evening, Luna Silver." He nodded in greeting at Claude's mother. She nodded in response. "I guess both of you would head down together then." And with that, she left the room.

"Hi Claude." Xavier turned to look at Claude.

"Hi, Xavier. You look handsome, I must say." Claude smiled, the edges of her eyes crinkling.
