The knockoff Alea necklace that Glynnis had acquired from Edith had worked wonders indeed!
When she presented it discreetly to Ada, she had steeled herself for potential embarrassment, worried that Ada would recognize the fake and she would become a laughingstock.
But even if Ada discovered the truth, Glynnis had a backup plan. She'd claim she'd been swindled by a so-called friend, that her knowledge of jewelry was limited and she'd been easily fooled.
To her surprise, whether it was the craftsmanship of Alea's apprentice or Ada's lack of discernment, Ada didn't notice the necklace was a fake. In fact, she was so thrilled that she put it on right away and refused to take it off!
Finally, Ada and Glynnis officially signed their contract.
With the help of Elspeth, who tirelessly sang her praises to Frederic, Glynnis even got promoted to a board member, landing a spot in the high-level meetings of the group!
That night, Elspeth and her daughter sat on the balcony, sipping their celebratory champagne ahead of time.
"Once Ada's wedding is over, your father will officially hand over the hotel to you. You've taken the first step towards success. Given time, I'm sure you'll join the board of directors and together we can kick that scoundrel Thaddeus out!" Elspeth wrapped her arms around her daughter, her eyes shining with hope. "I can't rely on your sister anymore. My future depends on you."
"Don't worry, Mom. Once I secure my position, I'll gradually whittle away Thadessus's power. The Abernathy Group will be ours!" Glynnis's eyes sparkled with ambition as she cheerfully clinked glasses with Elspeth.
Just then, the butler’s voice echoed from outside the door.
"Madam, Miss Glynnis, someone has just delivered an invitation for both of you."
Elspeth and Glynnis exchanged looks and stepped out of the balcony.
"Who sent it?" Glynnis asked.
"It's from the secretary of the general manager of K Orld Hotel, Mr. Dempsey."
From Evadne?
"Got it, you can go back to your duties." Elspeth took the invitation and closed the door.
She opened the envelope and found two invitations to a charity jewelry auction inside.
Elspeth's lips tightened, her expression darkened.
"Mom, Evadne has been quiet for a while and now suddenly she's sent us an invitation. Could this be some sort of trap?" Glynnis asked anxiously.
"Pfft, what's there to be afraid of? Now that Ada has signed a contract with you, it's a done deal. Even if Evadne tries to meddle, it's too late!"
Coincidentally, the TV was broadcasting the evening news, and the headline was about the charity jewelry auction!
"Mom! The event is being sponsored by Ethereal Vogue!"
Glynnis pointed at the television screen and exclaimed, "This is a world-renowned fashion magazine! Celebrities are dying to be featured on its cover! I can't believe Evadne is hosting an event for Ethereal Vogue. She has so many connections! The news also said that Ada and many other stars will attend the event!"
Seeing that Evadne had managed to secure Ethereal Vogue, Glynnis felt a mix of envy and admiration. Her sharp nails dug into her palm as she clenched her fist.
"Hmph, no matter how big she makes this event, she's still lost. She's just trying to save face!" Elspeth grumbled. "Since she's invited us, it would be rude not to attend. Let's go and keep an eye on her, make sure she doesn't pull any tricks on Ada and ruin our plans!"
Meanwhile, Evadne had just finished a cheerful phone call with the editor-in-chief of Ethereal Vogue, speaking in fluent English without any pressure.
As she changed into her workout clothes and prepared to go kayaking in the backyard, Cassius came to see her.
"Cassius!"
Evadne rushed downstairs and launched herself into Cassius's arms.
