The room fell into a shocked murmur as Glynnis became the center of attention. The revelation made everyone feel as though they were watching an American soap opera unfold.
Thaddeus heard the words, his eyes darkening, but his expression remained calm, as if everything was within his expectations.
He had always found it difficult to even get a meeting with Alea, let alone Glynnis having the ability to acquire Alea's precious jewelry. So it was obvious that Glynnis got the counterfeit.
With this thought, Thaddeus felt a surge of anger, his blood boiling as he glared at Evadne once again.
Evadne shrunk back slightly, looking at the man as if he was a lunatic.
What was with that look? Was he trying to intimidate her?
Glynnis, surrounded by suspicious eyes, paled as if she had just been diagnosed with a severe illness, and hid behind Elspeth Frost Abernathy.
"Ms. Glynnis, have you been deceiving me from the beginning?" Ada asked, her eyes brimming with anger. "Was it all just a cheap trick to win me over, to get me to cooperate with Abernathy Hotel?"
"I...I..." Glynnis was so scared that she was sweating buckets, unable to say a word.
"I trusted you because of the Abernathy Group, thinking you were a lady of good upbringing. Now that this has happened, I'm having doubts about the entire Abernathy Group. This is far from the image of the prestigious Elmsworth family!"
Ada, who had lost face in front of her idol, was ready to vent her anger on Glynnis and the Abernathy Group.
Everyone shook their heads in agreement. The billion-dollar family had given a superstar a fake gift, and it was exposed right in front of Alea herself!
This incident, and Acacia's cheating scandal with Thaddeus, would go down in the annals of the Abernathy family history, forever tarnishing their reputation.
"Ms. Ada, I was not aware of any personal gifts or deals Glynnis made with you. After all, as the CEO of the Abernathy Group, I had delegated the wedding preparations entirely to her," Thaddeus said with a cold tone, completely indifferent. "Her actions are her own and have nothing to do with the Abernathy Group."
Evadne, standing in his shadow, raised her eyebrows in surprise at his words.
Elspeth was grinding her teeth in anger.
"However," Thaddeus paused, his gaze deepening as he looked at Evadne, "for the damages caused by this counterfeit incident to President Ashbourne, or Ms. Alea, on behalf of the Abernathy Group, I am willing to take responsibility."
Willing to take responsibility for her?
People exchanged glances. Although they didn't see anything wrong with his statement, they could sense a subtle... implication.
Evadne's eyes darkened again, scoffing and averting her gaze from him.
She had initially thought he had grown a spine, that he could disregard Glynnis' social embarrassment. But it seemed he was still willing to clean up after Elspeth and her daughter, still considering the bigger picture.
He kept saying he wanted her to win... but that's just all talk.
"Wait! Why are we being treated as if we've committed some unforgivable sin? We are also victims here!" Elspeth quickly stood up to defend her daughter, her face red with anger. "My daughter wanted to do something nice, knowing that Ada likes Alea's jewelry, so she tried her best to get it, hoping to promote our cooperation! We, the Abernathy Group, are wealthy enough to buy not just one, but ten pieces of Alea's work. Why would we risk our reputation to please you with a fake? If we knew it was a fake, we wouldn't have bought it. We also want to find the person who sold us the jewelry!"
There were sighs from the crowd.
This woman, who had bought a fake, had the nerve to say she wanted to buy ten pieces of Alea's works. What a shameless boast.
"Elspeth," Liva finally couldn't stand her nonsense and stood up to retort coldly, "It's well known that Alea's jewelry designs are unique and rarely circulate on the market.
Everyone hopes to keep them forever, and unless they encounter a financial crisis, they would never sell it. When you were buying it, you should have considered the possibility of being deceived. Even if you have the money to buy it, Alea would not sell it to you."
Liva's eyes were filled with mockery as she continued, "No matter how it is evaluated, you are far from qualified."
"You...you!" Elspeth was so choked with anger she was almost smoking.
