Under relentless pressure from higher-ups to crack the case involving Wayne, the Chief felt cornered. Despite it being somewhat unconventional, he learned that Ms. Evadne was willing to try negotiating. Negotiations weren't her forte, but solving the case was paramount. Breaking protocol, he allowed her to meet with Wayne, hoping for a breakthrough.
Outside the interrogation room, through the one-way mirror—
Thaddeus and Aaron watched intently as Evadne faced off with the suspect. The tension and concern were palpable on the faces of these two seasoned agents.
Inside, Wayne’s gaze was dark and devoid of emotion as he stared at the strikingly attractive woman before him:
"Ms. Evadne, I’ve admitted to what I’ve done. I don’t see what more there is to say between us."
"Director-General Wayne."
"Drop the title. In here, I'm nothing but a suspected murderer," Wayne said with a self-mocking laugh.
Yet, even in his diminished state, his posture was upright, his demeanor unyielding. Decades of navigating the treacherous waters of power had imbued him with a grace that couldn’t be stripped away overnight.
"Alright, I'll address you as Mr. Jones then."
Evadne’s eyes were gentle, her manner respectful, "I believe that you didn’t end up here because you're a bad person, but because you had no other choice."
