Thaddeus got the news and felt a rush of adrenaline, heading straight for the police station.
Outside the interrogation room, Evadne and Aaron had been waiting for him for a while.
"Sorry, Evadne, I'm late," Thaddeus apologized immediately, catching his breath.
A perfect example of a gentleman.
"It's okay, I was worried you might rush and have an accident on the way," Evadne quickly stepped forward and used her sleeve to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
Thaddeus firmly grabbed her wrist, gazing deeply into her eyes:
"Evadne, I just met someone and have some good news for you!"
Evadne's eyes sparkled. "What good news?"
"Business first," Thaddeus said fondly, gently tapping her nose with his finger.
"Wayne will be here soon, and I'll be interrogating him myself." After dragging on for so long, Aaron was thrilled about the breakthrough.
"Aaron, watch how you speak."
Evadne, always thoughtful, reminded him, "Wayne was high-ranking, your former boss. Even though he's a criminal now, these types have pride in their bones—stubborn and arrogant.
So, be polite, treat him with respect, lure him gently, don't be too aggressive or put too much pressure on him."
"If I didn't know that, I'd have wasted all these years as a detective."
Aaron gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Don't worry, leave it to me."
With that, he pushed the door open and entered.
The door closed, and Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy shared a knowing look, Thaddeus's gaze filled with confusion:
"What exactly happened that made Wayne finally talk?"
Evadne, as usual, fiddled with his hand, calloused yet graceful and long, as if it was her favorite toy:
"Today, the legal head of the Chambers Group, Lawyer Lee, met with Wayne."
He teased her, curling his finger, playing along:
