Back at the Russell family estate, Margaret still had not recovered. It had already been two days, but she was still in a foul mood.
“Mom,” Celine came in with a bowl of porridge and sat by her bed. “You should stop being angry. We knew from the start what the outcome would be and you know very well what Alex is like.“
“Don’t remind me about him!” Margaret roared, and then she started coughing incessantly.
Celine quickly stroked her mother’s back and advised, “See, you should stop being angry as it only worsens your health. Besides, she’d only be happier if she knew you were sick. Alex is such a silly boy to be helping an outsider instead of his own family.”
“That girl has a sharp tongue. I thought someone from the Lodge family would be taught how to act appropriately. I never expected her to be such a rowdy kid who doesn’t even know basic manners. I’m still his grandmother. How could she speak to me like that? Is this how Wilfred taught her?!” The more she thought about it, the angrier she got. How could they treat her like that when she was Alexander’s grandmother?
They even kicked her out of their house. Alexander had even gone so far as to not allow them to step foot in his house anymore. How was this something a grandchild would say to his grandmother? Why can’t she go to her own grandson’s home? How dare that insolent child say something like this to her and embarrass her?
Even though Margaret was the most senior person in the Russell family, Alexander had never talked about her in public, nor had he ever brought her to any social events. It was as if she did not exist. Alexander was such an ungrateful kid, just like his mother.
“Mom, I’ve told you. That girl isn’t someone you can simply deal with, yet you didn’t listen to me and insisted on doing as you wish. Now, you’re throwing tantrums because of this.” She spooned some of the porridge from the bowl and tried to feed her mother. “Please, just have some, or else your body will be too weak.”
“I’m not hungry!” Margaret pushed her daughter’s hand away unhappily.
“I heard that people would turn ugly if they starved themselves. My beautiful mother wouldn’t want to do that to herself, would she?” Ralph’s voice came from behind. He came into Margaret’s room after returning from the date.
Hearing his voice, Margaret’s face instantly lit up, and she smiled.
Then she narrowed her eyes at him and said, “Enough with your silliness. I’m already such an old lady, and my beauty has long past its prime!”
Even though that was what she said, she was still happy with that compliment. No matter their age, women still loved to be told they were beautiful.
Ralph took the bowl of porridge from his sister’s hand and sat down next to Margaret, saying, “Let me look at my dear mother closely! Where’s the old lady? I only see a beautiful woman still throwing tantrums and refusing to eat!”
“You silly boy!” She smacked him lightly and smiled before sitting upright. “You always have such a way with words!”
“Of course I do! How else would I be able to make you happy?” He smiled cheekily as he scooped some porridge out of the bowl, “Now, open your mouth wide! Ahhh!”
“Fine, fine. I don’t need you to feed me,” Margaret took the bowl from his hand and started eating.
She finished everything in an instant. Celine, who was standing next to them, only smirked. Margaret had always favored her youngest son.
