Hearing the commotion, Cornelia bolted over, positioning her petite frame between Marcus and Zavier, "Zavier, what are you up to?"
Marcus looked at the fearless girl who had rushed to his defense, his icy heart enveloped in warmth. His voice softened involuntarily, "Cornelia."
Cornelia said, “Don't be scared. I'll protect you."
Marcus chuckled, "Such a silly girl!"
He didn't need her protection. Even if Zavier had the guts, he wouldn't dare to cross him.
Zavier snapped, "Back off! Don't make me get rough with a woman!"
Seeing things escalating, Steven and Lucas quickly tried to mediate, "Guys, can't you just talk it out? Keep this up and you won't be friends much longer."
The four of them were college pals and business partners, enjoying a strong bond. They had treasured places in each other's hearts. If they really had a falling out, they might stop hanging out altogether, which none of them wanted.
Steven added, "Marc, Zavier knows he messed up. He's realized how important Skyler is to him. Why not give him another chance?"
Cornelia retorted, "The chance isn't for President Hartley to give. It's up to him to earn it. If he gets his act together and Skyler's willing, she'll come back."
Steven frowned, "Marc, your woman really doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut. We're having a conversation here. It's not her place to butt in."
"I don't need her to be understanding. Her being happy and free is all that matters." Marcus stood up slowly, his gaze from beneath his silver-rimmed glasses on Zavier was chilling and terrifying, "Do you know anything about the poisoning?"
