Whitney came to the bar with a purpose, her mind still reeling from the day's drama. The fact that the man before her, who she begrudgingly considered a roommate, hadn't said a word about it irked her. It was her arch-nemesis who had come to her rescue, not him.
Annoyance bubbled inside her, along with a hint of bitterness.
She snapped coldly, "Yes, I'm all gallivanting. So, Mr. Roommate, why don't you just play the part? Just ignore me and we'll both keep to ourselves, alright?"
His eyes turned into voids of black.
Whitney knew he was pissed before she could even process it. His strong arms scooped her up and deposited her on the dresser next to the bed!
"L what are you doing?" She struggled to keep her balance, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck to avoid a fall.
He used this to press closer, his gaze dropping to where her slender legs brushed against his jeans.
He wanted to throw her on the bed, his pupils flaring with a burning desire.
"Do you really want to irk me with this 'roommate' act?" he growled, lifting her chin with a cold finger. His eyes narrowed threateningly. "Maybe I should show you what it's like to have a not-so-innocent roommate, huh?"
Seeing his domineering intent to 'punish' her, Whitney knew exactly what he meant and began to squirm.
"Are you in a hurry?" he taunted.
Whitney's face flushed crimson, and she quickly turned to check on Tiana, worried her friend might wake up any moment.
She dared not meet his intense gaze, her voice a timid blend of anger and embarrassment, "L, what do you want? Let's talk outside!"
"No, right here." His lips curled into a menacing smirk as he kept her trapped in his embrace.
Pressed against his chest, her skin blushed with heat. He took her reaction in sight with an unreadable expression; his voice was husky, "Alright, spit it out. What's got you all worked up now?"
As if it was her making trouble!
Whitney felt like she was about to pass out from frustration.
All she wanted was to escape his embrace. With her face a stony shade of blue, she explained, "Didn't Monica falsely accuse me of plagiarism? I cleared my name today, so I was happy, just out celebrating and networking with Tiana! Didn't you hear about the award ceremony? It was big news."
He glanced at her disdainfully. His voice was cold, "I wasn't paying attention."
Whitney's cheeks cooled instantly, her head drooping in defeat.
Didn't he even watch the news? Did he care so little about her?
She bit her lip, feeling a pang of disappointment. But she forced a smile, "Never mind. If you didn't care, someone else did."
"Who?" Ludwik prodded, feigning curiosity.
"My arch-nemesis solved the case for me!" Whitney couldn't help boasting, still seething with resentment, "It is Ludwik; he sorted it all out without a peep, and it was so touching."
"How touching?" He teased with a lifted brow.
She shot him a glare, huffing in annoyance, "Well, better than you, that's for sure."
Felix witnessed the CEO's mood plummet at record speed.
That’s completely unnecessary. Why so fiercely jealous over his own shadow?
Ludwik pinched Whitney's chin, his jealousy palpable, "Am I not good enough? Haven't I helped you? Who's the one wanting clear boundaries, playing hard to get, putting on airs?"
"I'm not playing hard to get! I just wanted some space from you..." Whitney mumbled, pushing against his firm chest. She didn't want to surrender her heart.
"Space again? Is that your new mantra?" His expression turned icy as he leaned in menacingly, "What kind of distance do you want, huh?"
Caught off guard, her face was grabbed by him with a devilish grin on his face. He lowered his head and poised for a kiss!
Whitney was helplessly pinned by one of his hands, "You!"
