Love's Redemption (Chris and Maddie) novel Chapter 400

"Mr. Gildon said that you've lost your voice, so he sent a special order to the shop in the middle of the night. It's still warm now," Gordon said, placing the grilled pear in my hands.

As the warmth spread through my palm, I held the bag containing the grilled pear and lowered my gaze.

Gordon started the car. "Ms. Crown, shall I take you to Sizzleton?"

Sizzleton was where my current apartment was located. The fact that Gordon could directly ask made it clear to me why Chris had appeared downstairs in the middle of the night. It seemed that Gordon had done some investigating for him.

"No need," I declined.

Gordon was slightly taken aback and looked at me through the rearview mirror. "Then…"

"Mr. Yates, please pull over."

Gordon shivered at my words, and he quickly pulled the car to the side. He looked at me, puzzled. "Ms. Crown, are you…"

I cut him off, "I'm not going back. Take me to the surgical ward." My mind was in chaos, and I almost forgot that Ellie was still in the hospital.

Gordon immediately understood. It seemed that he was aware of Ellie's surgery, so Chris probably knew about it too.

"You haven't had any rest. Are you sure?" Gordon looked worriedly at me. I wasn't sure if he was genuinely concerned or just worried that he might get a scolding if he didn't follow Chris' instructions to take me back.

"I'm fine," I said as I opened the car door.

"Ms. Crown," Gordon called out as his eyes fell on the grilled pear in my hand. "Mr. Gildon still cares a lot about you. If it wasn't for my mistake, you two might have already been married."

Gordon was still blaming himself for what had happened.

I refused to dwell on it and just gave a faint smile. "He's attentive to others as well."

I got out of the car before Gordon could say anything else, but he called out, "Ms. Crown, eat the grilled pear while it's still warm."
