Chapter 458 The Truth That Must Be Known
"My parentage? Is it necessary to talk about it? If it's her who asked you to speak for her, there's no need."
Jersey became tense at the mention of this topic and didn't want to talk much.
He figured that Maggie might have fabricated a lot of stories about how she had reluctantly abandoned him back then, but he wouldn't believe her d*mn words.
Remington patted Jersey on the shoulder and whispered, "Don't be so repulsed. Perhaps it's not what you think. Maybe you'll change your mind after listening to it. Just let Cece talk about it with you."
Remington generously left them alone, which indicated his trust in Cecelia and that he no longer saw Jersey as a threat or a rival.
Only Cecelia and Jersey remained in the ward. Jersey looked at Cecelia and mockingly said, "What's the point of talking about my origins? Don't believe her nonsense. I won't believe anything she says."
Cecelia sighed softly, "Jersey, it's not about whether you believe it or not. You have to know some truths."
"Hump! What truths?" Jersey wondered what nonsense Maggie had told Cecelia.
"Do you know the death contract that Maggie signed when she left Dark Moon?" Cecelia asked.
"Yeah, so what? Except you, everyone who leaves has to sign it."
Based on Jersey's understanding, except for Cecelia, no one had left Dark Moon without signing a death contract.
"Do you know the term when she signed the death contract?" Cecelia's second question remained unanswered by Jersey. Even if he knew, he was not inclined to talk much about it.
"I think you know about it, right? The term is about you. You are her son, and they could only restrain her by using you," Cecelia explained.
Jersey sneered. "She asked for it. Who else can she blame?"
Inwardly, he complained, "If she hadn't betrayed my father back then, how could she have been expelled from Dark Moon and forced to sign a death contract? It was all her fault. It was all because of her betrayal and infidelity.
Cecelia could sense Jersey's deep aversion and disgust towards Maggie.
As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day. If Cecelia wanted to change Jersey's opinion of Maggie, it would require more time and effort instead of just a chat.
"But have you never thought about one thing? Why did Tobiani use you as a condition for her death contract? Indeed, you are Maggie's son and also her weak spot, but you are also Tobiani's son. Why would Tobiani use his own son to control her?" Cecelia's question made Jersey fall into deep thought. He had never considered this issue because he didn't want to revisit those dark and terrible childhood memories.
"Do you really think Tobiani's condition could restrict me if I were Maggie? If I didn't do what he said, would I really worry that he would kill his own son? Think about it! Tobiani's attempt to control Maggie was clearly a futile move. Why did he still do that? If Maggie were truly ruthless, she could easily give up the death contract and break ties with Tobiani once and for all. Whatever Tobiani wants to do, including killing his own son, has nothing to do with her. Would she still fear Tobiani's threats?"
Cecelia's words were impactful and resounding.
The ward fell into an eerie silence as Jersey was drawn in by her words and started contemplating following her opinion.
According to Cecelia's speculation, Tobiani had indeed made an unwise condition by using Jersey to threaten Maggie.
But why would Tobiani do it?
Jersey felt that Cecelia was listing all these questions to open his mind and brainwash him, but he wasn't easily swayed.
