My Darling, My Dearest novel Chapter 405

Rachel had no idea what time her tears had stopped flowing or when she drifted off into an exhausted sleep afterwards. Julie, who became worried when she didn't come down, eventually went to the room, gently patted her exposed shoulder, and whispered, "Miss, you have been sleeping for too long. You can wake up now."

Turning over, Rachel said in a drowsy voice while looking at her with bleary eyes, "I'll take a nap and get up later."

"I took a call for you. it was from Miss Lea Ye. She said that she will be here in about ten minutes."

'Lea?'

Rachel instantly became alert upon hearing the name. She sat up on the bed, surprising Julie with her nimble movements. She kept saying, "Miss, please slow down. Now that you are pregnant, you shouldn't move as quickly as before. Take it slowly, no matter what you're doing!"

Knowing that the other woman was concerned about her well-being, Rachel smiled gratefully. She didn't say anything, but she consciously slowed down her movements and got out of bed carefully. She was changing out of her bedclothes when she heard Lea's and Rita's voices coming from downstairs. "Mom, it's so late. Why is Aunt Rachel still sleeping? Didn't you say that we shouldn't stay in bed too late?"

"It's because your aunt Rachel is pregnant, sweetie. There's two of them now, and they sleep together, so of course they should sleep longer."

Listening to the conversation between them, Rachel unconsciously made haste in changing her clothes. This time, despite Julie's words of caution, she all but sprinted down the stairs.

It had been a long time since she last saw Lea and Rita.

As soon as Rita saw her, she opened her arms out of the force of habit and pounced on her. Startled, Lea quickly reached out to grab her collar from behind and gently admonished her, "Didn't you see that your aunt Rachel's belly has become bigger? Now there is a little baby in her belly. If you bump into it like this, the baby will get hurt."

"Then I won't hit the baby." Rita pouted, and tears welled up in her eyes.

Rachel squatted down and gently held her hand. "Rita, you will have a little baby to play with soon. Would you like that?"

"Okay." The child's attention was easily diverted. She clapped her hands and asked excitedly, "Aunt Rachel, will it be a little brother or a little sister? I want a little sister to play with me." Rachel smiled, "I don't know, and I won't know until the baby comes out of my belly."

Rita immediately answered, "If you give birth to a little brother, then I will give birth to a little sister."

Rachel and Lea burst into laughter.

Lea asked with a smile, "How can you give birth to a little sister then?"

"Dad told me that as long as I put a doll under my clothes and pull it out, then I'll give birth to a baby." Rita gave them a look that seemed to doubt their intelligence and then trotted over to the sofa. She sat down, shaking her legs, tuned into the cartoon channel on TV, and proceeded to watch with a smile on her face.

Lea gnashed her teeth in annoyance. "Henry keeps teaching his daughter nonsense!"

Meanwhile, Henry sneezed three times in a row. Sitting in his car, he always felt the wind blowing in from the side. Upon checking, however, he saw that even with the front and back windows tightly closed, a gust of cold still blew behind him. He couldn't help the shiver that run down his spine.

Julie brought out some fruits and snacks to them. As soon as she set down the plate on the coffee table, Rita padded over and munched on the snacks with great relish.

After all of the joking, Lea's face suddenly became serious. She looked at Rachel's belly and asked, "How far along in your pregnancy are you? Why didn't you tell us? If Jack never found out, did you intend to raise the child alone? Do you still consider me your friend?"

Lea thought that she would be angry under the circumstances, but instead, she felt heartbroken.

Rachel lowered her eyes and said in a low voice, "No, I've been meaning to call you. After all, you're the only one I can tell about this."

Tears welled up in her eyes as Lea said angrily, "You silly girl, you always act on your own."

"That's not true. Not really. It was too late when I found out, and I didn't suffer much at that time."

There were days spent crying secretly into her pillow at night, and then there were days when she couldn't eat anything and was dry-heaving with a sour mouth. However, Rachel didn't want to mention it again. With a smile, she realized that the pain she suffered back then didn't seem so bad now.

Lea curled her lips and said, "Come on. You're saying that like I don't know you. I know you well. You always pretend to be strong in front of others."

Rachel didn't say anything and just let Lea pull her to sit on the sofa.

Lea held her hands and said, "Rachel, you won't leave this time, will you?"

Full of righteous indignation, she gave Jack a piece of her mind, telling him that everything was his fault. However, no matter how much she wished that he would leave, she knew that a woman needed a man in her life.

For Rachel, Jack was that man.

Ultimately, she hoped that Rachel could let go of the past and live a good life with Jack.

"I don't know," Rachel answered with her head lowered, uncertainty evident in her voice.

Who could predict what would happen in the future? Just like before, she thought she and Jack could finally live as a normal couple. She didn't expect that life would make a fool of her in the end.
