After saying just a few words, Jack hung up the phone. His face suddenly looked stern as he patted the driver's seat and said anxiously, "Stop the car right now."
Scarlett, who was sitting beside him, vaguely heard the word "Miss" during his conversation on the phone. She had a bad feeling about it. And before she could even react, she heard Jack's cold voice. "Get out of the car now and take a taxi going there. I have something important to deal with."
"What happened? I'll go with you," Scarlett said, unwilling to give up.
"No need," Jack replied with a frown. Seeing that she hadn't moved yet, he got out of the car and turned to the other side. After opening the door, he pulled her out quickly and got back in.
His car then drove away in a flash.
Scarlett stood on the roadside alone, wearing only a black off-shoulder dress. Her bag and coat were left in the car. Good thing she was always holding her phone, so it was with her.
When the cold wind blew, she shivered. Her face flushed with anger now. She gritted her teeth as she stared at the direction where the car had just disappeared.
It must be Rachel. Only Rachel's phone call could make Jack that anxious and leave her out of nowhere unhesitatingly.
It took her a lot of effort to convince Jack to attend the wedding with her. But in the end, she was only abandoned halfway. Rachel always ruined her plans.
The intense jealousy that Scarlett felt was like a venom that spiked her heart. She curled up on the ground, wanting to scream or beat someone.
Before the car could totally stop, Jack jumped out of it and rushed inside the house. Rachel, who was sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea in both hands, heard the footsteps. She looked at the door and asked with a frown, "Julie, what's going on?"
Julie lowered her head and answered softly, "Miss Shen, I saw you vomit so much just now, and I so was worried about you. I tried to call the doctor, but he didn't answer the phone, so I called Mr. Fu and asked him to come back."
Jack walked up to Rachel at once. His frown deepened upon seeing her stubborn expression. He asked sternly, "Why did you vomit all of a sudden?"
Rachel didn't answer. She raised the cup in her hand and was about to drink her tea. However, he suddenly took it away and held her hand tightly. "Get up. Let's go to the hospital so you can get a checkup."
"I'm fine. Maybe my stomach just got upset because I drank some milk without eating anything and then took a taxi home." Rachel lowered her head to avoid meeting Jack's gaze. She was afraid that if she saw the concern in his eyes, she would want to get close to him.
People were usually fragile when they were sick and wanted to have someone to rely on.
As a matter of fact, when Rachel was vomiting in the bathroom earlier, she couldn't help thinking that things would have been different if Jack was there.
But now, she deliberately put on a cold expression and withdrew her hand. She then stood up and walked to the stairs. "I'm a little tired. I'll go back to my room and rest. If you have something else to do, just go ahead with your business."
She had a feeling that Jack had something else to do. He was wearing a suit now, and she could smell a different scent of perfume that didn't belong to him.
Jack didn't know what was on Rachel's mind at the moment. When he saw her bloated figure, he had the urge to hold her in his arms. But when he thought of her expression just now, he eventually withdrew his hand quietly.
He just turned to Julie and whispered, "Go to the kitchen and cook some porridge for her. I've already called the doctor, and he will be here in ten minutes."
"Yes, Mr. Fu." Julie nodded, but she didn't move yet. After hesitating for a few seconds, she looked up at him and said, "Mr. Fu, since Miss Shen's belly is too big now, I think it's already difficult for her to move. In that case, I hope you can come back here to accompany her. She needs you to take care of her."
Jack looked ahead with a serious look on his face.
Since he didn't answer, Julie didn't say more and just turned to the kitchen to cook some porridge that he requested.
After a while, the doctor that Jack called arrived. "Mr. Fu, I'm sorry. I was stuck in traffic."
Jack didn't have time to exchange polite words with the doctor, so he said anxiously, "She's upstairs now. Follow me so you can check on her."
Rachel was lying on the bed with her eyes closed. She just let the doctor check her and answered a few questions in a low voice.
When Jack saw that the doctor was now packing up unhurriedly, he was so anxious that he felt like his heart rose up to his throat. He clenched his fists and asked, "What's wrong with her? Why did she suddenly vomit? Do I need to take her to the hospital?" The doctor put the stethoscope into his bag and said slowly, "It's nothing serious. Because she drank milk on an empty stomach and rode a taxi, her stomach got upset. Just make sure that she's on a soft diet for two days."
"I understand." Somehow, Jack felt relieved after hearing the doctor's words. He called Julie and asked her to see the doctor off. He then moved a chair to Rachel's bedside, sat there, and stared at her unblinkingly.
As he saw on TV, women usually gained a lot of weight when pregnant. They were like balloons that even after giving birth, their body remained round. But Rachel was different. One could tell that she was pregnant only because of her protruding belly. But looking at her limbs and face carefully, he felt like she was even thinner than before.
