Chapter 85 Sleeping in Kendrick's Arms
Natalie's expression was devout and focused.
She majored in medicine and had seen various types of scars. Therefore, she knew this scar had not only been imprinted on Kendrick's body but also in his heart.
A kiss could not remove it for him.
However, it could make his heart ripple.
Kendrick's eyes visibly contracted, for he had never expected her to kiss his scar.
No words could compare with her gentle kiss at the moment.
Therefore, Natalie didn't say much either. She just silently and gently applied the blood-activating patches to his knees.
Suddenly, Kendrick said, "On New Year's Day when I was eight years old, I saw on TV that the amusement park was very interesting on New Year's Eve, so I wanted to go there for fun. It was actually very late that day, and it was snowing heavily, but my parents always responded to my requests, saying it would be great for our whole family to have fun there."
The weather was very cold that day, but the lights and fireworks were shining brightly above the city.
It was a peaceful and bustling scene.
"When we came back, the snow was even heavier. When our car turned the corner, the truck across us suddenly lost control and crashed over."
Natalie's hand froze.
She looked up at Kendrick in disbelief.
She couldn't believe that Kendrick actually talked to her about these deeply buried past events, exposing his wounds once again.
"If I hadn't wanted to go to the amusement park but had chosen to stay at home, that wouldn't have happened, right?"
His expression was now calm, but his eyes turned extremely dark.
However, Natalie knew that he was very sad now.
Also, she could hear a strong sense of self-blame in his tone.
That accident had become a barrier deeply buried in his heart that could not be overcome, even though he had gotten better with the intervention of a psychologist in recent years.
However, once he recalled the past, he would fall back into the muddy swamp and struggle in the boundless darkness.
Natalie slightly shook her head and held his hand. "That was not 100% caused by you. It just happens that you are a survivor and so kind. That's why you feel guilty. No one wants such a thing to happen, so you shouldn't take all the blame yourself and live with the guilt. Your parents certainly don't want to see this either. They love you so much, more than their lives."
Facing Kendrick, she was always so gentle, and every one of her words rippled his heart like a spring breeze.
"Therefore, they won't blame you. No parents are willing to blame their children. Your parents definitely don't want to see their favorite child live with a heavy burden of guilt."
"But they all said that it was my fault, reproaching me capricious."
Natalie reached out and touched his cheek. She shook her head, and her eyes instantly wet. "No, that's not true. They're just bullying you. They are trying to make themselves look less cold-blooded by using words to attack a child who won't resist and shifting responsibility to him."
Kendrick was stunned.
Natalie wanted to cry.
She thought, "This man looks cold and deep, but there are too many unknown wounds in his heart.
He first encountered such a great change during the critical period of shaping his personality and was then attacked with language by his mean and selfish relatives.
Day after day, his heart is bound to be scarred.
However, he has cherished his life and made positive progress in order not to disappoint his parents.
No one knows that he has been silently licking his wounds like a lonely little cub for countless nights."
Natalie held back the surging tears in her eyes and said gently with a smile, "You know what? Actually, every one of us is an independent small planet. Our lost families and friends are the dark matter around the planet. Although they can no longer be seen, gravity still revolves around our orbits. If we strive to make our planets emit greater light, we can illuminate their way back.
"Life is not eternal, but love is. Your parents haven't really left. They're still by your side in another way."
Suddenly, Kendrick put his hands around her waist.
The next moment, she was abruptly drawn into his arms.
Kendrick pressed his face against her neck and hugged her tightly for a long time, unwilling to part.
He thought, "My life was once a dark and boundless swamp.
I've been trapped in eternal darkness.
But one day, a corner of the dark curtain that covered the sky was torn open.
She broke into my world.
She's like a beam of light shining into my life."
Natalie also reached out and hugged him.
