Skylar recovered her composure slowly while staring at the picture. Her heart raced. She asked, "Aren't you scared of being seen, Joe?"
Joe's eyes glinted with a hint of a smile. He asked, "Are you scared, or am I?"
Skylar froze. When had their relationship evolved? They'd started acting like a couple who were madly in love with each other.
…
Joe made breakfast.
Ever since he'd prepared breakfast for the first time, he'd whip up breakfast whenever he woke up early. Per the adage, practice made perfect. With every meal he prepared, his skills improved. He would even make bolognese pasta from time to time.
That was precisely what he'd cooked that day. It would taste delicious with the addition of chopped bacon, which Skylar had prepared a few days ago. It would last them for at least a week.
Joe loved it. On some mornings, he could finish off two large bowls of pasta with chopped bacon.
After chatting casually with Skylar, Joe asked suddenly, "Did you meet Molly a few days ago?"
Skylar was surprised. How had he found out?
She nodded. Skylar wasn't interested in keeping things from Joe. She admitted, "Yeah. She asked me to meet with her in a café a while ago."
Joe's eyes darkened. He asked, "What did she tell you?"
"It was like something out of a soap opera. She gave me a check and told me to leave you," Skylar answered with a smile.
However, Molly had remained far calmer and more generous than the characters in those dramas. Skylar might've wavered if Gloria hadn't stood between her and Joe, and they were a regular couple.
Joe chuckled coldly and echoed incredulously, "A check?"
"Yeah."
