"Mr. Gardner," greeted Skylar after standing up. Then, she turned to Joe and asked, "Are you guys here to have dinner?"
Joe's jaw was clenched. He was clearly in a horrible mood.
Skylar thought that Joe would ignore her. However, he replied, "Yeah, did you guys come over from the hospital?"
"Yep. We're almost—"
Before Skylar could finish, Joe interjected, "What a coincidence. Let's eat together."
Aiken smiled at Joe and said, "Let's order a few more dishes."
Skylar could only sit back down.
John was rather annoyed. He'd wanted to talk to Joe privately about a few matters. He had to be blind if he couldn't pick up on the weird air between Joe and Skylar. No, Aiken was part of this too.
The atmosphere circulating around the three of them was extremely absurd. He hadn't checked his horoscope today. He should've asked Joe to dinner next week. However, John couldn't leave under such circumstances. He could do nothing but sit down.
Aiken added a few dishes.
When Skylar and Joe remained silent while waiting to be served, John began talking to Aiken.
He didn't know Aiken very well. However, they saw each other frequently in Jipsburg and had seen each other a few times at different events.
They could engage in some small talk.
Suddenly, Joe asked Skylar, "Did you drive here?"
Skylar hadn't heard him the first time he asked. She'd been texting Natalie in an attempt to evade the awkward atmosphere.
