"Mr. Tremaine, you must be feeling terrible right now." Rorita then said, "It's a very uncomfortable feeling, you can't even breathe. You feel like your heart is being held down by a mountain, just on the brink of crushing it to dust."
Tremaine was shocked.
He looked at Rorita with a look of surprised astonishment in his eyes.
Because Rorita had accurately guessed how he was feeling right now.
She was absolutely right.
Rorita laughed bitterly.
The reason she was able to tell how he felt so accurately was because she was feeling the exact same way.
She was describing Tremaine's feelings and her's as well.
"Here, have some candy." Rorita offered him a piece of toffee and said, "Even though eating candy can seem childish, it really does help with the pain. Having one in your mouth when you're in a terrible mood helps. The sweetness eases the bitterness in your heart."
Tremaine stared at the piece of toffee in her hand for some time, then decided to take it.
He took it, not because of what Rorita had said.
He didn't believe that a small piece of candy would actually help at all!
He only took it because he remembered that Yesseca enjoyed candy.
Tremaine peeled away the wrapping and found a small brown piece of candy inside. He placed it in his mouth and felt the sweet milky flavor fill his entire mouth.
Rorita's eyes trembled slightly when she saw him eat the candy she had offered him.
"Mr. Tremaine." Rorita then asked, "That woman in the rabbit mask, the one you saw while we were on the parade float, was that the woman you loved?"
Tremaine hadn't expected Rorita to have noticed that. He then glared at her, giving off a warning as if to say, "That is none of your business."
Seeing the anger in his eyes, Rorita smiled bitterly.
