"Oh," Montez replied.
His phone started ringing.
Since Sheldon was still driving, he turned on the speakerphone.
Just then a man started talking out of the speakers, "Mr. Hawls, what other food does the president enjoy aside from bread? I can't believe I never noticed how distinguished his palate was! I am so unprepared for his meals! I've really messed up!"
Before Sheldon could respond, Montez asked, feeling quite puzzled, "Distinguished? That means ugly and smelly right? My daddy is not a 'distinguished' person!"
The attendant over the phone didn't know who Montez was, but he knew it was the president's son because he heard him call the president daddy.
He quickly greeted him, "Hello Mr. Montez."
Montez pressed, "You called my daddy distinguished. What does that mean?"
The attendant felt nervous and quickly explained, "Forgive me Mr. Montez, I didn't mean anything mean by that. I just assumed that the president must really love bread to have gone out of his way to get a bread recipe from a retired master baker by visiting him three times in a row. That's what I mean about the president having a distinguished palate."
Montez was surprised.
He was well-read and enjoyed reading literature and classic stories. This sounded familiar to him.
He then asked, "Did my father really visit that master baker three times?"
The attendant replied, "Yes he did. He was refused at first, but he kept calm. But he was persistent and went to see him again and again. It was thanks to his persistence that he was able to get the recipe. Please don't overthink it."
Having said that, the attendant realized what he had done and said, "Please Mr. Montez, please tell your father I said that. You know what I mean when I said he had a distinguished palate. I... I blurted that out."
If the president found out that he was running his mouth, he would surely pay for it!
Montez didn't want to trouble other people.
Besides, the attendant didn't mean anything by it.
"I see." He replied.
The attendant sighed.
Montez looked at Sheldon after the phone call ended.
Sheldon was keeping quiet.
