Hope was a kind of belief. It couldn't be seen or touched. However, it managed to support people and let them have faith in their lives.
I couldn't help but tighten my grip on Hendrix's palm. It seemed to be the only way for me to regain some strength, enabling me to remain calm.
There was a buzzing sound reverberating in my ears. Before I was about to suffocate, Dr. Jules' hoarse and gentle voice rang out. He said, "That's not necessarily the case. Nothing is absolute."
He paused for a while, putting the medical report on the table. He looked at me patiently. "Mrs. Roberts, I have studied and been in this field for nearly 30 years. I have encountered many tricky situations before. Your case is not the worst, you can definitely rest assured. As long as you follow the doctor's instructions, having children is only a matter of time. Your mentality plays an important role. Please keep an open mind, and leave the other things to me. Got it?" Dr. Jules said.
Even though Amos had said so, I still couldn't tell if he was just trying to comfort me. In order to make Hendrix feel at ease, I nodded blankly.
Seeing that, Dr. Jules nodded and then glanced at Hendrix next to him. He asked, "Mr. Roberts, what's your opinion? You know that I will be having an international exchange project in three months. Therefore, my time in the country is minimal. If you want me to take over Mrs. Roberts' case, I will immediately ask my assistants to discuss the treatment plan."
It was pretty normal for the top fertility specialist in the country to have such a busy schedule. We could see lots of patients waiting in the corridor to seek medical treatment, during the times we visited the hospital. They had probably come for Amos, so it was not difficult to understand that he was in such a hurry to decide whether to take over.
A doctor at this professional level should be treated as a national treasure. He would be sought after wherever he went. Hendrix must have asked for help from many friends, in booking his appointment with Dr. Jules. That was why we had to accommodate his schedule.
Hendrix agreed as expected. He said, "You're the expert in this industry. All the decisions should be yours."
He held my hand even tighter and looked at me. After that, he said to Amos in an earnest voice, "Please."
Hearing his voice, I frowned while looking at him. For a moment, I felt that he was a devout believer, and Amos was his God.
Hendrix had always been God's favored son. When he was born, he was destined to have a superior and mighty legacy. However, at this moment, I felt like he had suddenly turned into an ordinary man. For the sake of us having our own children, he had become so humble.
Looking at him like this, I was immediately relieved, though I wasn't sure why. Hendrix looked so charming and reliable at that moment, in a different way from how he usually looked.
"That's my duty," Mr. Jules said. He did not have much to say. He turned around and picked up a pen to write the prescription. After he finished writing, he tore the paper out and handed it to Hendrix. He said with a serious look, "I know Mr. Roberts is a VIP patient. But there is one thing I want to mention. Since Mrs. Roberts is my patient, she needs to follow my prescription in the next two months. Don't go seeking medication without proper planning or consume other medicines. I hope you two can take this seriously."
I nodded obediently when I heard that. It was not only because Dr. Jules was clearly experienced, but also because his professionalism was irresistible. As an expert, he could have only offered medical advice within the scope of his abilities. However, apparently, he had seen the hardships of our pregnancy preparations. He had reminded us of the risk of conflict in treatment from his professional point of view.
