Marjorie cried, glancing over at West. But West’s face was grim, and he didn't even spare her a look.
Of course, her little charade didn't fool Grace or Janina.
Janina glanced at her mother, and Grace stood up to show Marjorie the door.
"Alright, I understand. That's enough. My daughter needs to rest. You should go now and not disturb her."
Marjorie nearly ground her teeth to dust. She had swallowed her pride to make peace, and the Holts still treated her this way. It was infuriating.
Her eyes darkened. She hadn't seen any sign of a baby, and when she looked up again, her eyes were still brimming with tears.
She looked at Janina with a resigned expression. "Nina, I bought these clothes for the baby. I won't disturb you any longer. Goodbye."
With that, Marjorie placed the gift bag on the nearest chair and lowered her head apologetically to everyone.
Her fragile, pitiful look was heartbreaking. But not a single member of the Holt family said a word.
Marjorie turned and walked toward the door.
Grace snapped back to her senses, immediately grabbing the gift bag from the chair and chasing after her.
"The gift really isn't necessary. The baby has more than enough clothes, it would be a waste."
She then shoved the bag back into Marjorie's arms.
Without waiting for a reaction, Grace returned to the room and shut the door.
Marjorie stared at the closed door, her fingers slowly clenching into fists.
The Holts were slapping her in the face!
She masked the darkness in her eyes, turned, and left.
But she walked slowly, looking back every few steps.
She hoped West would come out. After the way Grace had treated her, surely West would feel sorry for her.
He had always been the one who couldn't stand to see her wronged. Whenever she cried, his heart would ache.
She waited, hoping West would come out so she could talk to him.
