Maggie opened the food containers, ladled a bowl of soup, and placed it on the small table in front of Wendy. Her voice was calm but tinged with annoyance.

“Let’s not talk about irrelevant people. It’s ruining my appetite.”

“Maggie’s right,” Janina immediately agreed, arranging the other dishes. “And based on how guilty he acted about you wanting to verify the check, I think something fishy is going on. By the way, Wendy, where is the check? I can ask a friend at the bank to look into it.”

“He has it. He took it with him after our fight on New Year's.”

After everything she had been through, Wendy's feelings for Finch had cooled significantly.

For a couple to last, they had to be on the same wavelength, whether in matters of love or anything else.

If he fell behind occasionally, she could wait for him.

“Alright, that’s enough. Let’s eat,” Maggie said, shooting a look at Melody and Janina.

Taking the hint, the two of them tactfully fell silent.

Seeing that they had started eating, West picked up the thermos and left the room to get water from the kitchenette down the hall.

The kitchenette was at the end of the corridor, past a series of patient rooms.

As he approached it, he suddenly stopped.

Not far from the kitchenette, West saw Finch standing in the stairwell, talking to a woman.

Curiosity piqued, he slowed his pace, ducked behind a corner, and sent a quick text to Janina, telling her to come over.

After receiving her brother's message, Janina made an excuse and brought Maggie and Melody out with her.

She didn't know the full situation and decided not to tell Wendy just yet, to avoid upsetting her.
