After a lifetime of abstinence, being with a man was a revelation for Maggie. It was like a whole new world had opened up for her, leaving her radiant. It turned out that sleeping with a man was a wonderful thing, bringing both physical and spiritual pleasure and fulfillment.
Maggie’s eyes flashed as she swirled the wine in her glass. "I finally understand why so many women become hopeless romantics. The feeling of being in love is intoxicating. But I know what I want, and I'm not one to cling to something that isn't for me."
Wendy drank silently, one glass after another, the conversation floating past her ears as painful, hollow memories replayed in her mind.
Janina was also reminded of her own ridiculous decade of devotion, which had only left her covered in scars, licking her wounds alone.
Men weren't worth it. Her own happiness was what mattered most.
Life was short, and youth was even shorter—just a decade or so. Once it was gone, it was gone forever. There was no point in dwelling on the past; she had to look forward. Happiness was never tied to a single person or a single event.
"Sisters," she said, a wave of emotion washing over her, "we're young now. Let's do whatever we want, live without regrets, and just do whatever makes us happy."
"Yes, yes! The thing I want to do most right now is have a baby," Melody slurred.
Her words were met with three stunned stares. Melody had always been a staunch advocate for being single. As an actress, marriage and children were sensitive topics. She loved acting far more than she valued any man. She'd said before that she would never get married or have kids, so what had changed so suddenly?
