The light in Michelle’s eyes dimmed little by little.
Then she said to Yvonne, “Your father and I talked about this earlier. He said he would go speak to Mr. Carter Sr. and reason with him.”
“Do you think that could work?”
Michelle looked at her with a hopeful, almost pleading expression.
She never imagined she would be unable to make decisions about her own daughter’s future.
The thought alone made her feel unbearably frustrated as a mother.
If she couldn’t protect her daughter’s happiness, then what was the point of claiming to dote on her all these years?
Didn’t that make her look hypocritical?
Even she felt guilty in her heart.
She had carried this child for ten months and brought her into the world, yet she still couldn’t shield her from suffering in the second half of her life.
If that was the case, why bring her into this world at all?
Why let her live through pain she couldn’t stop?
But Yvonne didn’t believe this would work.
“Mom, just forget it.”
Her thoughts were crystal clear.
“You know how calculating Edwin is, and how unreasonable he can be. He never acts with any logic.”
Yvonne let out a cold laugh. “If Mr. Carter Sr. truly intended to fix this, he wouldn’t have let his son run wild in the first place.”
“But we have to at least try.”
Michelle still wanted to fight for her daughter.
Yvonne was still so young.
