Victoria had initially wanted Natalie, as Ms. Ward, to get back together with her son. But now, he had a much better prospect.
So why would she still want them to reconcile?
Hanley listened, his brow furrowed. Was his daddy going to marry a new wife? Was that why he hadn't come home, because he was with Miss Everhart? If they got married, would he become unwanted?
Sensing Hanley's panic, Lucas patted his shoulder. "It's okay, you still have us. We'll be here for you."
Hanley nodded.
Natalie said, "If your son is getting remarried, that's for the best. Give me custody of Hanley."
Victoria retorted angrily, "Why should I? If my son marries Miss Everhart, his future is set! Hanley has a real future with us. What can he possibly get from you? Even if you're Ms. Ward, how much of the inheritance will you even see? Can you compare to Miss Everhart? And Terence has been completely sidelined. He's a cripple. What can you two possibly give my grandson? Come on, Hanley, let's go. You don't belong in a place as shabby as this.."
Victoria called for Hanley, but he refused to go with her.
"Grandma, I don't want to go back with you. You're always playing cards and don't look after me, and Dad doesn't come home. I'm always home alone, and I'm scared."
Victoria said furiously, "You're a big boy, what is there to be afraid of? Act like one!"
