Lucas leaned in and whispered in Hanley's ear, "My daddy is already arranging to bring you to live with us. Then the three of us can be together. We'll have a mommy. If you miss your daddy, I'll go with you to visit him. You can think of my daddy as your daddy, too. Then you won't have to worry about your dad marrying a new wife and forgetting all about you."
Liana made a welcoming gesture toward Hanley.
Lucas said, "My sister is welcoming you."
Hanley smiled happily. "Thanks. I like being with you guys."
Victoria was already furious, but seeing the three children getting along so joyfully made her blood boil.
"Hanley, didn't you used to hate Lucas and Liana? Why are you being so friendly with them now? Did they brainwash you into forgetting who your real family is? Come with me now, Hanley, before these people turn you against us for good."
Hanley said firmly, "Grandma, I'm not leaving. They're good to me, and they care about me. I know I was wrong before. I shouldn't have been so mean to them. I thought they were trying to take my mommy away. But now I realize I was horrible to Mom, and they aren't trying to take her away. They just want to make our mommy happier. I'm not leaving. I'm staying here."
Hanley looked at Natalie and said, "Mommy, thank you. Thank you for not being mad at me. After how I treated you, you're still willing to accept me. Mommy, I was wrong. I promise I'll never treat you badly again. I'll be good to you and be a good son."
