All of a sudden, Gianna seemed to remember something. She turned to Regina and said, "Mom, aren't you really close with that lab? Why don't you get Nydia some kind of fertility formula? If she actually gets pregnant, she'd treat you like a living saint."
Her plan was carefully thought out and aimed straight at human weakness.
If Nydia could actually conceive, that would fulfill her greatest wish. She would definitely see Regina as her lifelong benefactor.
At that point, Regina could easily hold leverage over her and make demands whenever she wanted.
After all, in Aranthian elite families, having heirs had always been the top priority. Especially in a family like the one Nydia married into, continuing the bloodline mattered more than anything else.
Relying only on a husband's affection was never enough. How could that kind of love last a lifetime?
A woman who had been married for years without children was already standing on shaky ground within the family.
If she could really get pregnant through one of Regina's so-called formulas, it would be like grabbing hold of a lifeline.
At that point, forget small favors. Even asking her to hand over part of the family's resources as repayment would probably make her hesitate very little.
The more Gianna thought about it, the more brilliant the idea seemed.
"Gianna Nygard, how many times have I told you not to casually bring up that lab?"
Regina's expression changed instantly, and she scolded her sharply.
"I know," Gianna shrank back and lowered her voice. "It's just the two of us at home. That's why I mentioned it."
She knew that when Regina called her by her full name in that tone, it meant she was genuinely angry and serious.
She did not dare push further.
"Even at home, it's not allowed. What if someone overhears? What if you get used to talking about it and accidentally let something slip outside?" Regina said coldly.
When it came to something classified at the highest level, Regina had always been extremely cautious.
One careless mistake, and she could easily end up like Raymond.
"And Nydia is an ungrateful woman. She's not worth taking that kind of risk for," Regina added.
She had not failed to consider Gianna's suggestion before. But in the end, she had chosen not to act on it.
Nydia was nothing like those simple-minded Nygard men. She was sharp, calculating, and very independent.
She was just like the late Eric—someone who was not easy to control or deceive.
Regina was afraid that instead of gaining leverage over her, Nydia might uncover something that should never be exposed and end up dragging Esmond down with her.
If Esmond got implicated as well, Regina would truly lose her strongest support.
She could not afford to gamble.
"That woman disappearing is the best solution," Regina said, her eyes flashing with cold cruelty.
"Disappear? Mom, what do you mean?" Gianna asked cautiously.
At Nygard Group, whenever Patience went to visit her friends there, she always brought their favorite food along.
Under the excuse of discussing work, they would eat, drink, and chat together.
Working in that kind of joyful atmosphere felt genuinely good.
The only downside was that a certain annoying man insisted on tagging along.
"You used to love this, didn't you? Amelia likes it too. I bought plenty so you can both try it. And these peppered duck bites are sweet and spicy. They go perfectly with beer, so I brought those as well," Maxwell said.
Following closely behind Patience like a personal assistant, Maxwell carried bags full of food.
Patience rolled her eyes at him.
She was already used to this.
They were here to talk business. Somehow, he treated it like a snack party.
When they arrived at the executive office, Amelia was working at her computer.
"Amelia, I missed you so much," Patience said warmly as she walked over and hugged her.
"You haven't eaten yet, right? Let's eat while we talk."
The ever-present tagalong chimed in as well. "Yeah, Amelia. I brought food for you both. Eat first, then work. Don't let yourself go hungry."
