Crowned by the Man They Feared (Amelia and Jeremy) novel Chapter 616

"Why are you here again?" Amelia frowned the moment she saw Maxwell.

Both her words and her expression stabbed Maxwell right in the heart again.

But by now, he was basically immune. He smiled anyway and said, "Of course I had to come. Marcelo, Miguel, and Mom were all worried. They're afraid you're not taking care of yourself. You're carrying all of Nygard Group on your own now. It's too much. So they told me to keep an eye on you and make sure you eat properly and get enough rest."

Amelia shot back immediately, "Aren't you all working at Nygard Group too?"

How had it suddenly become her carrying everything alone?

"Oh, no, that's not what I meant. We're not trying to take over the company or anything. We'll definitely help manage it together. We're just worried about you. About your health, your meals, your daily life," Maxwell hurried to explain.

He thought Amelia was worried they might fight her over control of the company, so he rushed to clarify, clearly panicking.

Amelia stayed silent.

She did not remember saying anything like that. Why was he so nervous?

She had originally planned to kick him out of the office like usual. But after thinking about it, she showed mercy and pointed to a small chair.

"Then sit there. Or if you have something to do, go take care of it."

After saying that, she and Patience walked over and sat down on the extremely comfortable couch inside.

"No, no, I'm not busy at all," Maxwell said quickly.

The poor guy obediently sat down on the small chair, feeling incredibly moved.

Not long ago, he had not even been allowed a chair. He had been sent straight out of the office.

Now he had a chair. A small one, but still a chair.

Did this mean Amelia was slowly starting to accept him and forgive him?

The thought made Maxwell wildly excited. He immediately sent messages to Marcelo and Miguel.

He even texted Emery to share the huge news.

His fingers flew across the screen, every word filled with barely contained excitement.

Even the cheap little stool under him suddenly felt like it had been plated in gold.

He sat up straighter without realizing it.

"Where did Josie go? I was thinking we could all chat for a bit," Patience said.

"She's busy finding excuses to meet Harrison whenever she has free time. Always talking business with him," Amelia replied.

"That's kind of weird, she seems especially into Mr. Ramley," Patience said gossiping happily.

She had not known Josie as long as Amelia had.

"Yeah, this is the first time I've seen that girl take someone so seriously," Amelia said.

"No, no. I'll let things happen naturally," Patience waved her hands quickly. "Don't steal the matchmakers' jobs."

Anything this woman decided to do, she always did absurdly well.

Now she even wanted to compete with professional matchmakers. How were they supposed to survive?

Besides, Patience felt she had gotten used to her freedom. This kind of life actually felt pretty comfortable.

She glanced again at Maxwell, who was quietly entertaining himself in the corner, making sure not to disturb them. She almost laughed again.

This idiot really was hopelessly straightforward, the least scheming person among the Nygards.

Back then, it was exactly because he was so simple-minded that Gianna had been able to manipulate him so easily.

When she thought about how their breakup had been caused by Gianna meddling, not cheating, it felt even more frustrating. It was worse than having an annoying sister-in-law constantly interfering. Even now, thinking back on it still made her uncomfortable.

But now that the annoying adopted sister had been kicked out, and she was actually getting along with his real sister like they were sisters herself, the reversal felt surreal.

That strange twist left Patience with complicated emotions she could not quite put into words.

Amelia noticed it too. She saw how her friend's eyes kept drifting toward Maxwell.

A lot of people believed that if something really worked, it would not have fallen apart in the first place.

But then again, every situation was different.
