So, the waiter aimed at Benjamin Bright's chest and fired again.
This time, Benjamin had recovered from his initial shock.
He grabbed Daisy Duke, using the chaotic crowd as a shield to drag her to safety.
The bodyguards inside the private room sprang into action, quickly engaging the assassin in a fierce brawl.
The spacious room devolved into pure chaos.
People were screaming and running in every direction, giving Benjamin the perfect opening to pull Daisy out the door.
Unfortunately, they hadn't made it far before a crushing pain seized Benjamin's chest.
His fragile heart couldn't handle this kind of intense exertion.
Perhaps fueled by the alcohol he had consumed earlier, the sudden, agonizing pain sent beads of sweat rolling down his forehead.
Noticing something was terribly wrong, Daisy quickly supported his arm.
"Is it your heart?" she asked frantically.
Benjamin pushed her away. "It's too dangerous here. You need to leave."
As timid as Daisy usually was, there was no way she would abandon him in the middle of a warzone.
Watching the color drain from his face, her medical training kicked in—she knew he couldn't take another step.
But the assassin wasn't working alone. The chaotic thud of heavy footsteps echoing down the hall told her a whole group was closing in on them.
In a moment of pure desperation, Daisy kicked over a massive trash receptacle. Just as Benjamin's legs gave out, she shoved him inside and tipped the heavy bin over to conceal him completely.
"Hide in here and don't make a sound," she whispered fiercely. "I'll draw them away."
Benjamin tried to stop her, but it was too late.
He had no idea where she found the strength. The slender, fragile girl had managed to completely trap him beneath the heavy container.
Through a narrow slit at the bottom, he had a clear view of the hallway.
If he were a healthy man, he could have easily fought his way out.
But right now, Benjamin was devastatingly weak.
