Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 19

Maeve's face went cold. "That old man's been missing for over a year. I made these myself."

Parker tapped her forehead a few times, half scolding, half amused. "Watch your mouth. If Griffin hears you call him 'that old man,' he'll skin you alive."

Maeve's expression soured even more. "Don't mention him. He gets on my nerves."

"You kid," Parker sighed. "What kind of father and daughter hold grudges forever? What happened back then—"

Maeve swept the remaining cherries into her pocket.

"Sterling. I'm leaving."

"Wait." Parker stopped her.

"Tomorrow's the official start of the semester. You skipped class constantly last year. This year, no matter what, you're showing your face on the first day."

Then, as if afraid she'd refuse, he added in a smaller voice, "I'm not asking you to attend every lecture. Just... show up once. Symbolically."

Maeve didn't promise anything. "Depends on my mood."

News of Maeve being released on bail still reached Luka in the end.

In his mind, there was only one reason she'd gotten out: Andres had done it as a favor to Anya.

And maybe—if things went Anya's way—she'd use her brains to become the envy of every woman in the city: Mrs. White.

That night, Luka asked Maeve to meet him at a high-end café.

After their last fight, he didn't bother hiding his motives anymore.

"Maeve, I'll be straight with you," he said. "Taking you back into the Morales family as the eldest daughter comes with a price."

"Your brother is seriously ill. He needs a kidney donor to stay alive. If you're willing to donate, I'll acknowledge you. You'll come back into the family."

In Luka's mind, a girl raised in some poor nowhere town would be desperate for a taste of wealth.

One kidney in exchange for a lifetime of luxury—anyone would take that deal.

As for those doctors who'd been arrested, he'd already had his lawyer handle it. They could sit tight, take the fall, and as long as none of them said his name, he'd make sure they had a way out once they were released.
