Divorce Failed My Wife's Secret Identities Shock the World novel Chapter 20

"I've already told you. Donating a kidney to him is not happening."

Luka was about to explode when Maeve calmly added, "I know someone who's the real deal—an alternative medicine specialist. He can keep Ansel alive with medication."

"One treatment a week. In a month, he'll be as stable as he can be going into surgery."

"In the meantime, you can keep looking for a donor. If the Morales family is willing to spend, you'll eventually get your transplant window."

The message underneath it was crystal clear: she could buy Ansel time, but getting her kidney? Not up for discussion.

Luka's voice shot up. "Medication to keep him alive? Are you kidding me?"

"From the day Ansel got sick until now, I've dragged him through every hospital you can name. Big ones, small ones—everything. They all said the same thing. Without a transplant, he has no choice."

Maeve's smile didn't budge. "Just because you've never met the right person doesn't mean you get to speak in absolutes."

Luka thrust out a hand. "Fine. Give me this miracle worker's contact information. Right now."

Maeve lifted a brow. "You seriously thought I was offering help for free?"

His chest tightened again. "Name your price."

She didn't bother pretending to be polite. "Half of the Morales family's assets."

Luka nearly choked. "That's impossible."

Maeve spread her hands. "Then our negotiation ends here."

"Maeve—are you screwing with me?"

"If I'm bold enough to make that demand, I'm bold enough to stand behind what I say."

She dug in her bag and produced a small pill bottle. "This is one pill he left with me. Take it back and have Ansel swallow it."

"If Ansel isn't moved out of the ICU and into a regular room in seven days, you can treat everything I said today as nonsense."

Luka stared at her like she'd handed him poison. "You expect me to trust some random bottle? How do I know you didn't tamper with it?"

To make sure her daughter arrived with maximum fanfare, Isla—glowing with good news—drove Anya to campus herself.

The reason was simple: her son, who'd been on the verge of being declared beyond saving, had suddenly taken a turn for the better. For Isla, it felt like the universe had finally decided to reward her.

When Isla—draped in designer jewelry and expensive confidence—linked her arm through Anya's and stepped through the university gates, a ripple went through the crowd.

Isla had once been a household-name celebrity. Even after years out of the spotlight, she still had pull.

People greeted her, asked for photos, begged for autographs. And under her mother's glow, Anya became the first-day spectacle.

Thanks to Isla's loud, proud marketing, news that Anya was a genius had already spread.

A girl gasped, "No way—she's the beautiful prodigy who took first place in the cybersecurity competition? And she's at our school?"

Isla practically polished her daughter in public, adding another layer of shine.

"Honestly," she said, "science is fine, but Anya's real gift is languages. She's fluent in five—English, Japanese, German, Italian, and French. And she hasn't even started classes yet, but with the White family... it's basically already settled."
