A thick stack of yellow talisman paper also sat on the table.
These papers were significantly larger than the small talismans Maeve had drawn for Murray and Hans.
Butler Tanner spoke respectfully to Maeve, "Miss Vance, the parchment and vermilion ink have been prepared, along with the ritual brushes. Everything is exactly as you ordered."
Sylvia couldn't hold back her skepticism. "Don't tell me you're planning to draw talismans?"
Elijah and Ian were equally disapproving of Maeve's strategy.
"Using talismans to realign an entire energy grid? Well, that's certainly a first for those of us in The Luminary Order."
Maeve couldn't be bothered to entertain their passive-aggressive remarks.
With less than half an hour left, she had to get everything done before the auspicious window closed.
Walking over to a staff member holding a basin of water, Maeve solemnly submerged her hands to wash them.
Seeing Maeve begin the ritual hand-washing made Quinn visibly excited.
"After all this waiting, Maeve is finally going to draw some talismans."
Seeing Quinn's reaction piqued Andres's curiosity.
"What exactly is going on?"
Quinn asked, "Mr. Andres, have you ever heard of the Five Arts of The Mystic Order?"
Andres nodded.
Although he wasn't part of The Mystic Order, he had heard a thing or two about the Five Arts.
Quinn explained, "The Five Arts include Mountain, Medicine, Destiny, Physiognomy, and Divination."
"The 'Mountain' aspect involves cultivating oneself through foundations, martial arts, and talismans."
"Mastering talismans alone is a hurdle most practitioners never clear."
"Even though anyone in The Mystic Order can draw a talisman, if they don't have enough mental fortitude while drawing it, the talisman is useless."
"Ordinary, low-level talismans drawn without much focus can barely provide basic protection or bring a little luck."
"But truly powerful talismans require the artist to draw them in a single, continuous stroke. Their mental focus and spiritual energy must be perfectly aligned, without a single mistake."
"Any slip-up along the way can render the talisman completely useless and even trigger a severe backlash against the person drawing it."
"With energy this thick, a few measly purification talismans will probably only treat the symptoms, not the root cause."
Elijah completely agreed with Sylvia's assessment.
At this point, he still wanted to plead his case with Andres.
"The next auspicious day for setting up an array is in nine days."
"Mr. Andres, if you're willing to trust me one more time, it would be best to leave the remaining time to The Luminary Order."
He was here on his master's orders today. If he went back a failure, he wouldn't be able to face him.
As the senior disciple of The Luminary Order, Elijah felt an overwhelming amount of pressure.
Quinn didn't hesitate to pour cold water on that idea.
"Looks like someone's big talk is coming back to bite them."
"That's why they say: don't act tough if you can't back it up, or you'll get struck by lightning."
Elijah was so furious at his cheap shot of a younger brother that he nearly coughed up blood himself.
