Audrey squirmed under Maeve's piercing stare.
"What exactly are you trying to say?"
A confident smirk played on Maeve's lips.
"What I'm trying to say is irrelevant. What matters is that Stetson Woods was intentionally murdered."
"And if it was premeditated murder, it means someone in this lab didn't want me to pass my trial."
Audrey bristled defensively.
"Are you accusing me of killing him, Maeve?"
Maeve just looked at her, her smile mocking.
Everyone in Lab C knew that Audrey was the only person desperate to see Maeve fail.
It was an open secret.
As more and more doubtful eyes turned her way, Audrey shot back.
"Fine. Even if you suspect me, do you have concrete proof? Without evidence, I can sue you for defamation."
Maeve didn't even bother arguing.
She slowly peeled off her disposable gloves and turned to Simon.
"My job was to determine his cause of death. Finding the killer isn't my responsibility."
Simon hadn't expected such a disgraceful scandal to unfold right under his nose.
"I will launch a full investigation and give you a satisfactory answer."
When his gaze shifted back to Audrey, his eyes were heavy with intense disappointment.
It was a look that screamed, I know it was you.
Audrey vigorously shook her head.
"Boss, do you actually think I had something to do with this?"
"I'll investigate whether you did or didn't," Simon replied flatly.
Audrey felt utterly humiliated.
"Why bother investigating? Why don't you just pin the blame on me right now?"
"As far as all of you are concerned, I'm the villain trying to keep her out anyway."
Furious, she ripped the ID badge off her chest.
