Back when Simon Grover, the head of Lab C, had personally visited Aethelburg University to request an internship spot for Maeve, it had caused a massive uproar on campus.
This was the legendary Lab C, a place everyone revered and dreamed of entering.
Getting into Lab C meant securing a fast track to unimaginable wealth and fame.
Maeve was just a sophomore, yet she had been the lucky one chosen by them.
Who wouldn't be envious?
Who wouldn't be violently jealous?
But what was the outcome?
"It hasn't even been that long, and you, our little 'genius,' were returned to sender."
"At the end of the day, you just didn't have what it takes, and they saw right through you."
"I have no idea what the director of Lab C was thinking. Out of all the top students at Aethelburg, he actually picked you."
Under Leah's instigation, the crowd quickly picked up the rhythm.
The sycophants behind her began jeering and laughing, eager to kick Maeve while she was down.
Maeve tilted her head, asking Leah pointedly,
"So you're saying that Lab C's director has terrible judgment for picking me?"
Leah finally felt like she had a solid angle of attack, and she wasn't going to let it slip by.
"Any leader with half a brain wouldn't have chosen you."
"You took a year-long leave of absence right after enrolling. You've barely attended any classes. What makes you qualified to work in that lab?"
Maeve let out a long, drawn-out "Oh."
"I get it now. In your mind, the director of the lab is just a brainless idiot."
Leah choked on her words.
She did think the director had poor judgment, but she hadn't explicitly called him stupid, had she?
Maeve continued setting the trap.
"Then who do you think, out of all the students at Aethelburg, is the most qualified to be accepted by the lab?"
Leah rolled her eyes.
"Anyone with a pulse is ten thousand times better than you."
Maeve was the one who said all of that!
Just as she was about to defend herself, a voice that absolutely should not have been there rang out.
"I'm also quite curious. When did Lab C's standards drop so low that we started accepting farm animals?"
The person who posed the question was none other than Simon Grover, someone nobody expected to see.
His tall stature, handsome features, and aristocratic aura made him look like a proud prince stepping out of a fairy tale.
The noisy environment instantly plunged into absolute silence.
The name Lab C was just as thunderous as Aethelburg University itself.
And it was a well-known fact that the head of Lab C was the second son of the Grover family.
On a normal day, ordinary people rarely got to see Mr. Simon in the flesh.
No one expected to be so lucky as to catch a glimpse of the legendary figure on campus today.
He was just as devastatingly handsome as the rumors claimed, causing a wave of blushes among the female students.
Moving with elegant strides, Simon walked toward the crowd.
