In less than half an hour, Maeve finalized the agreement with the Duke family.
As she was leaving, Daisy walked her to the door.
"Maeve, thank you. Thank you for giving us a place to live and for securing our livelihood."
Her father had already quit his night shift at the warehouse.
The salary Maeve offered wasn't considered a fortune in Aethelburg, but for the two of them, it was a substantial income.
Maeve wasn't one for overly sentimental displays.
"Don't call this 'helping.' We're just using each other."
"If you didn't have skills I needed, I wouldn't be playing the saint. We're both just getting what we want."
That was Maeve's brilliance in handling people.
She helped them without ever making them feel inferior, offering them absolute respect and trust.
Daisy didn't force any more dramatic words of gratitude.
She had already made a vow to herself to repay Maeve's kindness through hard work.
With Daisy watching, Maeve climbed into the luxurious black SUV waiting nearby.
"Everything settled?"
Inside the car, Andres handed her a cup of hot milk.
The weather had been getting colder lately. Just standing outside the estate for a few minutes had left Maeve's cheeks flushed from the autumn wind.
Murmuring a thanks, Maeve took the cup to warm her hands.
"It's settled. Daisy's dad seems very reliable."
"With them watching the house, you can pull your men out."
"I'm going to be pretty busy for the next little while. Lend me someone you trust to handle communications with him."
Andres was thrilled that she was finally asking him for a favor.
"Done. I'll have Hans pick someone personally."
Thinking back to when they first met, Maeve had completely closed herself off, never even mentioning her friends.
Though she was still harboring many secrets, Andres believed that sooner or later, she would open her heart and be completely honest with him.
