"Some oblivious people even teased me, saying Nancy Grover was back in town and asking if we were going to rekindle our old flame."
"I explicitly told them I was taken, but they selectively went deaf."
"It's like they've all decided that she and I are soulmates."
"Maeve, you don't want your husband constantly tied to another woman in the tabloids, do you?"
Maeve was forced to meet his gaze.
His expression was sincere, his eyes burning with intensity.
"After all that rambling, what's your actual point?"
Andres seized the opportunity.
"Let's find the right moment and publicly announce our marriage. Please?"
"When exactly is the 'right moment'?" Maeve asked.
"How about tomorrow?" Andres suggested.
"Absolutely not," Maeve deadpanned.
Seeing the disappointment wash over his face, she added another sentence.
"Wait one more year. When I'm a senior, if The Binding hasn't been broken, and neither of us has dragged a third party into this, we'll announce to the world that we are legally married."
If she was destined to spend the rest of her life tied to him like this, going public was something she would have to face eventually.
She was giving them one year to figure it out.
In a year, if she was still alive and all the chaos had been settled, she would consider starting a new chapter of her life with him.
Even though it wasn't the immediate yes he wanted, Andres could tell she had genuinely thought about their relationship.
A year was long, but it would pass.
He could wait.
"Alright. It's a deal. One year."
And so, the married couple spent a very harmonious night together.
The next evening, Maeve received a call from Daisy.
She had talked it over with her father, and they were willing to accept Maeve's offer.
Just providing them a safe place to stay was enough; they felt incredibly guilty taking a twenty thousand a month salary on top of it.
