"If you want me to leave him, you're barking up the wrong tree. You need to negotiate with him."
"Who knows? Offer him a few billion, maybe tens of billions, and he might just fall for you again."
Nancy's voice spiked.
"Andres isn't superficial like that! And what makes you think you can casually throw around numbers like billions of dollars?"
She smiled with arrogant confidence.
"I'll reserve judgment on whether he's superficial or not."
"I threw out those numbers because, to me, that's what he's worth."
"If you can't even front that kind of cash, what gives you the right to dictate someone else's life?"
"Nancy, do you honestly think you're some kind of god?"
The blatant mockery struck a deep nerve.
"Maeve, don't think a sharp tongue is enough to hold a man's heart."
"He is only with you to get back at me."
"If that wasn't true, he wouldn't have nearly died from a mysterious illness when I left him."
"Do you have any idea how sick he was? He didn't even want to live anymore."
Triumphant, Nancy let out a smug laugh.
"He was willing to throw his life away for me."
"Do you really think a clown like you can compete with that kind of history?"
Nancy stood up, glaring down at her.
"Paying you to leave was just me trying to let you keep a shred of dignity."
"Don't wait until he dumps you, or you'll walk away with absolutely nothing."
"Watch your back, Maeve."
Having delivered her threat, Nancy picked up her bag and strutted out of the room like royalty.
Watching the door close, she fell into deep thought.
