Jasper bristled. "Slade, you jerk!"
Watching them erupt again, Maeve massaged her temples. "If anyone tries to tell me there isn't massive sexual tension between you two, I'm calling their bluff."
The aggressively competitive Slade went dead silent.
The stubbornly defiant Jasper did the same.
With Slade and Jasper's chaotic entrance, the previously tense and unfamiliar group in the room managed to break the ice and get a feel for one another.
As the initiator of today's gathering, Andres had booked an exclusive conference room on the seventeenth floor of The Grand Horizon Hotel.
"Gentlemen, before we officially begin, would you like me to make introductions?" Andres offered.
Declan, Leonardo, and Corbin were all Aethelburg locals. Even if they didn't interact much in private, they frequently crossed paths at high-society events. Slade, as a titan of the Port Caspian business world, was already a household name in corporate circles.
What surprised everyone was the presence of the Reed family from Gotham, an organization that rarely dabbled in Aethelburg's affairs. Declan and Leonardo had shared a brief overlap with Mason Reed during a previous trip to Lumiere City. They weren't close—at best, they were casual acquaintances.
Corbin, who hadn't attended the Lumiere City summit, was surprised to see Mason in Andres's inner circle. "I didn't expect VP Reed to be interested in this partnership."
Mason adjusted the gold-rimmed glasses resting on his nose. Faced with Corbin's curiosity, he offered a good-natured smile. "Just like the rest of you, I'm highly intrigued by the two products Maeve debuted at the Intelligent Competition."
"I heard Maeve has more surprises in store for us today. I didn't want to miss a golden opportunity, so I came to Aethelburg to see them with my own eyes."
Slade, as usual, cut straight to the chase.
"What I don't get is, it's just two smart tech items. Why invite so many people to the table?"
Slade was left speechless.
In truth, every single titan in the room wanted exclusive rights to the tech. But Andres had made it explicitly clear beforehand: anyone looking for a monopoly shouldn't bother showing up.
If Andres himself hadn't secured exclusive rights, the others knew they didn't stand a chance. They had all abandoned the thought, ready to play by Maeve's rules.
"Everyone, listen up," Maeve said, her gaze sweeping across the room. "Mr. Shaw, Mr. Fulton, Mr. Thorne..."
She deliberately skipped right over Jasper. Her eyes landed on Mason Reed as she continued, "VP Reed, and Mr. White. I'm glad you all made it on time."
"I know you all share the same question: why bring so many partners to the table. Both the Dream Helmet L and the NannyBot W are still in the R&D phase. Reaching mass production and finally taking them to market for profit isn't just going to require a bottomless pit of funding—it's going to be a long, drawn-out process."
Despite facing down a room full of billionaire executives, Maeve's commanding presence rivaled every man present.
