Ayla sounded calm now. "I climbed pretty slowly, so I'm not that tired."
Draven didn't say anything. Only then did Ayla glance at him. The moment she did, their eyes met. He must have been staring at her the whole time.
His gaze made her uneasy, and she quickly looked away. "Did you come here specifically to find me, or did we just run into each other?"
"I came to find you," Draven said. Right now he was afraid of letting Ayla out of his sight.
"Didn't we agree I'd have some time alone?"
"I haven't seen you in a long time."
"A long time?" That description sounded very strange.
Draven even gave the exact time. "Five hours and fifteen minutes."
Ayla was speechless.
"I only feel at ease when I see you," Draven said. Earlier, when he saw Ayla break down, it had hurt him deeply. If she hadn't said she wanted some time alone, he would have stayed by her side the entire time just to make sure she was okay.
Ayla looked out at the distant scenery. "This is your territory. I'm not going to get lost."
"That's true," Draven said with a quiet laugh. Ayla looked much better now, and that reassured him. He stood beside her and looked at the view with her.
After a while, Ayla decided it was time to go back. Being alone here quietly with Draven put pressure on her.
"I'm going back."
"Alright."
Ayla had just taken one step when Draven grabbed her wrist. She looked at him in confusion.
Draven glanced at the long path below them. "I'll carry you down."
"That's not necessary. Your leg is still injured."
"It's just a small injury. Don't worry about me." Draven stepped down a couple of stairs and looked back at her. "Come on. Let's head back earlier."
Ayla didn't climb onto his back. Instead, she tried to walk past him. But the moment she passed by him, her body suddenly felt weightless. Draven had picked her up in his arms.
"If you don't want me to carry you on my back, then I'll carry you like this."
In the end, Draven carried Ayla back.
"What happened to your family?" Ayla asked.
"Draven told my dad about some of the things Troy did in the past, including stuff from when we were kids. My dad completely lost his temper and went to complain to Grandpa. Grandpa got seriously angry this time and decided to teach Troy a lesson. Then Draven recommended Lance to temporarily take over one of the Winston family's projects. That project is the one Troy cares about the most. Ollie even went to Winston Group and became the project manager. Troy hasn't come back to clean up the mess. He's still staying in Zheron. My dad knows Troy is planning something, so he's even angrier and more disappointed."
Bria kept talking. "Then I heard that Draven and Troy are basically fighting each other. My parents were terrified this time, so they both came over. Yesterday they even met with Kayla. My dad swore he would keep a close eye on Troy. Troy got yelled at so badly by my dad that he nearly lost his mind. I've never seen him this unlucky before, and I've never seen my dad act this tough!"
Ayla fell silent.
Draven spent his days playing chess with her and drinking coffee. He didn't look busy at all. But behind the scenes, he had been doing so many things. She hadn't noticed anything.
What surprised Ayla the most was that Draven had actually contacted Eric. When they had been together before, he never wanted to deal with those people and even felt strongly against it. Draven had never even opened up to her about his feelings before, yet now he had gone to Eric and talked about the hardships he experienced when he was younger.
It sounded simple, but for Draven, it was almost unbelievable.
"Where are you right now?" Ayla asked.
Bria shouldn't be wandering around alone. She had rushed over in a hurry and hadn't brought any of her usual companions. She did have friends here, but once she heard Ayla was in town, she only wanted to see Ayla.
She had been so bored that she spent a long time at a bar. Now she was wandering around outside. It was already dark, and she didn't even know exactly where she was.
"I'll send you my location," Bria said.
