“Wiona, don’t scare me like this.”
“If this doesn’t work, we’re going to the hospital. I’ve already made all the arrangements. I won’t let you suffer for another second.”
Wiona couldn’t help but chuckle, though it came out as a weak rasp.
“Are you openly questioning my grandparents’ skills?”
“Relax. With them watching over me, I’ll be fine.”
“Alternative medicine is a profound art. You have to trust the traditions our ancestors passed down.”
With that, Wiona tried to sit up.
“Conrad, is there anything to eat? I’m starving.”
Seeing that her first thought upon waking was food, Conrad shook his head with a fond, helpless smile.
“Yes, my little glutton.”
After Conrad personally fed her, Wiona drifted back into a deep sleep.
When she woke again the next morning, she felt much more energetic.
However, she was startled to find a large circle of people surrounding her bed.
Her uncles and aunts.
Several of her cousins, and even her pregnant cousin-in-law, Noelle…
Everyone was here.
But Conrad was nowhere to be seen.
Then she saw Ryan kneeling on the floor, and her heart dropped.
Had they found out about her conversation with him?
“Grandma, this…”
Before Wiona could say more, Grandma Julia held up a hand to stop her.
“Don’t say anything.”
“Wiona, dear, I know everything.”
“It was Ryan who frightened you, wasn’t it?”
“He deserves to be punished!”
Wiona looked worriedly at Ryan on the floor. Oh no. If he was being punished for that, then they also knew she’d been asking about her biological father.
Would her grandparents… be heartbroken?
“Well, well. So the two of you have been colluding to fool us two old folks, is that it?”
“Ryan! You’d better start talking, right now. What did you two really discuss that made Wiona so sick?”
Ryan opened his mouth, but before he could speak, another voice cut in from the doorway.
“Mom, Dad, don’t make things difficult for the children.”
“All of this started because of me and Paige.”
In just a few days, Carter had become a shadow of his former self.
He looked so haggard it was as if he’d aged a decade overnight, with new streaks of white at his temples.
Ryan’s eyes widened in shock. “Dad…!”
Carter walked over and placed a hand on his son’s shoulder.
“Good boy. It’s your mother and I who have dragged you into this.”
He then looked up at the rest of the Blue family, his expression unreadable. But the words he spoke next stunned every single one of them.
“A moment ago, I had my lawyer deliver divorce papers to Paige at the Thompson family home.”
“I… intend to formally file for divorce.”
