“Um… Mr. Cooper, I have a question.”
Jason frowned slightly, a bit confused. “You said your friend wants to break up with his mistress and get back with his ex-wife, but will his ex-wife even agree to that?”
At this, Evan, who was tapping the ash from his cigarette, paused.
Jason continued, “Besides, your friend has been with his mistress for over a year. He said himself that he’d be reluctant and hesitant to end it. So, is there really any need to?”
Jason genuinely didn’t get it. If he was already divorced and couldn’t bear to leave his mistress, what was the point of going through the trouble of breaking things off? It wasn’t like his ex-wife was guaranteed to take him back.
Evan fell silent. That was a point he hadn’t considered.
If he wanted to get back together, would she really agree?
Based on their eleven years together and his understanding of her, she was definitely not the type to forgive and reconcile easily.
“Alright, you can go.”
Growing more irritated, Evan lost any desire to continue the conversation.
He shooed a baffled Jason out of his office, then rose and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. He picked up the pack of cigarettes from the desk and stood by the window for an unknown length of time.
When Evan came to his senses again, he pulled out his phone, intending to contact Melissa. Only then did he notice that she had called him twice an hour ago.
Evan quickly redialed, and the call was answered almost immediately.
“Is something wrong?”
“Mr. Cooper!”
His coldness and her warmth met on the same call.
On the other end, Melissa sensed that something was off with Evan’s mood. She hesitated for a moment before recovering, lowering her voice to ask cautiously, “Are you busy?”
