Eleven Years All to the Wrong Man novel Chapter 300

A few feet away, the slippers Melissa usually wore were sitting there alone.

But her outdoor shoes were also in the entryway. With both her slippers and shoes here, she couldn't possibly be barefoot, could she?

Evan frowned and took a few more steps inside.

That's when he saw it. The entire kitchen and dining room were in disarray, as if burglars had torn through the place. Everything was a mess, and Melissa’s purse and wallet had been tossed carelessly on the floor.

Evan’s heart tightened. A terrible feeling washed over him.

He rushed into the master bedroom, the bathroom, the balcony, and all the spare rooms. After a thorough search, he confirmed that Melissa was nowhere to be found.

Furthermore, all the closets and drawers had been ransacked. The Patek Philippe watch he kept on the nightstand was gone.

If it was just a suspicion before, he was now certain.

His home had been burglarized.

If it were just a simple robbery, that would be one thing. But where was Melissa?

Fearing that someone might still be hiding in the house, Evan didn't linger. He hurried out into the yard and dialed 911.

“Mr. Cooper, when was the last time you were in contact with Ms. Wu?” a young female officer asked, taking notes in her pad.

“Around four in the afternoon. She asked if I would be home for dinner, and I said yes.”

“And she’s usually home at this time, correct?”

“Yes, she should be.”

The officer frowned. “Should be? As her husband, are you not certain of your wife’s daily routine?”
