“It seems this wasn’t acquired through legitimate channels,” Leonard observed. “If it were, they wouldn’t be selling it at half price at auction, hoping for a lucky break. They would have started with a much higher price.”
“It’s a good thing I came today,” Lillian said.
Since she was here, she had to win it at this price.
However, before Lillian could even raise her own paddle, Bella, sitting in the front, immediately made a bid.
Seeing this, Lillian felt a little unsettled.
After raising her paddle, Bella, knowing the price was high, instinctively glanced toward Sebastian.
She was afraid he would object on the spot, thinking it was too expensive.
Fortunately, Sebastian didn’t react, at least not by openly objecting.
Sebastian remained still because he heard someone else raise the bid. If the price kept climbing, Bella definitely wouldn’t be able to afford it. She could want it all she liked, but the price was what it was, and it was far beyond her reach.
Even though Sebastian suspected she might have a few hundred million dollars somewhere, he figured it was likely tied up in investments, leaving her with little cash. She was counting on him to pay.
So, Sebastian decided to wait and see.
Seeing others bidding, Lillian held back for the time being. There was no need for her to drive up the price against herself in the beginning.
After several rounds of bidding, the price had reached three hundred and eighty million dollars.
Just as Bella was about to raise her paddle again, Sebastian shot her a warning glare.
Bella seemed not to understand his look and raised her paddle without a second thought.
“Three hundred and eighty-five million dollars!” the auctioneer called out. “Do I have any further bids?”
Seeing that the price had reached a reasonable point, Lillian raised her paddle and called out, “Four hundred million.”
Judging by the mood in the room, the other bidders were close to their limits and were unlikely to keep going. Only Bella seemed stubbornly unwilling to give up.
