“So, I really can’t bring myself to ask him for more. As his mother, I just can’t say the words.”
“I’ll just have to be more frugal myself.”
“Bella, are you in a tight spot for money right now? If you really are, I can ask some friends to move some funds around and prioritize your needs.”
Seeing Debbie offer to borrow money for her, Bella knew she couldn’t let that happen.
Besides, she still needed a favor from her.
She immediately smiled and said, “Ms. Harris, it’s fine. I’m not in a rush, don’t worry. If you’re short on cash, let me help you figure something out.”
“After all, with your status, it wouldn’t look right to be borrowing from friends.”
“Given our relationship with Sebastian, we have to consider his reputation first, don’t you agree?”
When Debbie heard that she might be able to get some money from Bella, she was thrilled.
She immediately replied, “Bella, you’re such a good kid. Sebastian is so lucky to have you. I don’t know what he did in a past life to deserve this.”
“Ms. Harris, don’t say that.”
A housekeeper brought another course of their meal.
The two continued their conversation as they ate.
“Ms. Harris, about what I mentioned before—reuniting with Old Mr. Blake—are you prepared for that?”
Debbie froze. “Well…”
Prepared for what? She had never even considered reuniting with that man.
Reunite for what?
If the Blakes found out she had shown up in Northwyn unannounced and gambled away a fortune, they would probably make good on their promise to have her thrown into the ocean if she ever stepped out of line again.
She was enjoying her time in Northwyn in secret. Things were comfortable this way.
