Family on Their Knees Heart Turned to Ice novel Chapter 759

"You didn't drag me down," Lillian said firmly. "I understand exactly what it's like to have a family that bleeds you dry.

"The reason this unpaid wage rumor blew up so drastically isn't because of you.

"It's because I have a whole pack of leeches just like your relatives hovering behind me."

She had truly witnessed the ruthless depths the Mercer men were willing to sink to. And Sabrina jumping on the bandwagon to kick her while she was down? Predictable, but infuriating.

None of that mattered right now.

The most pressing issue was clearing up the medical parole. She refused to let her past drag down the people who had genuinely helped her.

After soothing Celia and ending the call, Lillian looked up at Ethan. "Get my medical records. Make a clean, summarized file.

"If the internet is so desperate to know whether my medical parole was a legal loophole or a moral failing, let's just lay it all out. Let them see exactly what kind of 'loophole' it was."

Lillian hated the idea of weaponizing her illness, but her hand was forced. The Blakes, the Mercers, and the Lancasters all had some inkling of her condition anyway. If it was going to leak, she would be the one to release it.

Ethan hesitated. "Ms. Mercer, are you sure about this?"

"There are guards at that prison who stuck their necks out for me," Lillian said quietly. "They're just working-class people trying to feed their families. I won't let this mob mentality put their livelihoods at risk. You know how the internet works—rumors turn into facts, and public outrage can force the higher-ups to take action. I can't be selfish. My health is my private business, but this has spiraled beyond just me."

Ethan shot a look at Leonard, who gave a curt nod.

"Get it done," Leonard said.
