His foot was already raised, fully intending to turn and walk out, but now he had no choice but to freeze.
Sebastian turned back around, immediately meeting his father's deeply displeased glare.
"Did you see the news online? Since you're back, why are you running? Don't think you can just wash your hands of this. I have plenty to say about your despicable behavior.
"You're the one who started all of this. When your mother and I were out of the country, you ran wild. You actually got your own wife sent to prison! Now that the internet has dug it all up, how does it feel? You ungrateful son, if it weren't for you, would any of this be happening?"
Sebastian stood there, genuinely caught off guard.
He knew a little about what was happening online that night, but not much.
The internet found out Lillian had been in prison?
It seemed the Mercer family had hit hard this time. To get the Mercer Group back on its feet, they clearly didn't care who they destroyed.
"Dad, the internet drama has nothing to do with me. Can you not blindly accuse me? And her going to prison back then—are you seriously blaming me for that, too?"
"If not you, then who?" Mr. Blake snapped. "Who else is there to blame? You were the one keeping that other woman around, making everything a messy blur!
"How could you have the nerve to bring your mistress to see old Mrs. Mercer? If it weren't for her, would old Mrs. Mercer have had that accident? You bear the primary responsibility for that, do you understand?
"Unpaid wages? You really just echo whatever nonsense you hear, don't you? You actually believe the rumors online? The people spreading those lies have already been arrested, and Lillian's lawyers have issued statements. Her company is doing exceptionally well. Sooner or later, she's going to make everyone who looked down on her eat their words.
"Sebastian, you mistook a pebble for a diamond and threw away a real treasure like it was garbage. One day, you will regret this. And I'll be waiting to see the look on your face when you do!"
Sebastian was stunned. "What? No unpaid wages? Then why was there such an ugly scene at her factory gates?"
The old man couldn't be bothered to waste more breath on him. He slammed his hand on the table and issued a single demand.
"Now that the prison incident has been dug up by malicious people, and since you were the one who caused it, it's your responsibility to fix it. Lillian is a good woman, and she's Noah's biological mother. If you don't resolve this properly, you can pack your bags and leave the Blake family."
