To say Sebastian lacked ability wouldn't be entirely accurate. He was, to some extent, capable.
But to say he was truly competent? That was a stretch. At the very least, if the Blake family had flourished with more capable heirs, Sebastian would never have been seated in the CEO chair of the Blake Group. If there had been a better option, Old Mr. Blake would never have chosen him.
For the past few years, the name Debbie Harris hadn't haunted him like a curse, and he had been able to tolerate the situation. But after this latest incident, utterly disgusted by Debbie's despicable actions, Old Mr. Blake genuinely wished he could rid himself of his disgraceful son once and for all.
Because of this, he could somewhat grasp Lillian's mindset.
Sebastian had likely given her the exact same feeling of profound disappointment. Add to that the fact that Bella had poisoned Noah's mind to the point where the boy held zero affection for his mother—greeting her only with misunderstandings, calling her a murderer, and screaming that he hated her.
Perhaps Lillian had also realized that Noah would amount to nothing of consequence in the future, so she had simply decided to cut her losses and walk away.
Old Mr. Blake let out a heavy sigh. "The Blake family must be paying for some grave sins to endure a disaster like this. I fear that within the next two generations, the Blake Group's legacy will come to an end."
Lillian remained silent. The affairs of the Blake family had nothing to do with her anymore. She picked up her glass and took a slow sip of water, masking the slight awkwardness and signaling her absolute refusal to get involved.
Old Mrs. Blake still looked at her with desperate reluctance. "Lillian, could you really bear to watch the Blake Group fall into ruin once it reaches Noah's hands?"
Lillian knew she couldn't dodge the topic.
