Looking at Lillian again, Old Mrs. Blake could only let out a defeated sigh, finally letting go of all her underlying hopes.
Just then, the staff brought over lunch. Lillian had already eaten, so she simply urged the elderly couple to take care of their health.
Since there was no turning back the clock, the couple naturally wasn't in the best of moods. However, having been running on adrenaline and stress since the previous night, they hadn't eaten a thing and were genuinely starving. They didn't decline the offer and sat down to eat.
Lillian kept them company, introducing the specialized nutritional meals laid out before them.
"Leonard and I are both recovering patients, so we have to be very strict with our diets. Aside from these balanced meals, we also have medicinal broths prescribed by our doctors..."
As Lillian chatted with them, the couple finished their food. Now that the meal was over, there was no reason for them to linger.
Old Mr. Blake initiated the farewell, and they prepared to leave.
Lillian personally walked them to their car. Before stepping inside, Old Mrs. Blake reached out and grasped Lillian's hand, unable to hold back her emotions. "Lillian, thank you. If it hadn't been for you last night, my husband would be gone, and I likely wouldn't have survived the heartbreak. We won't force anything on you ever again. But getting older is lonely, and it's rare to find such a wonderful girl like you. If you ever have the time, could we occasionally share a meal or have tea together?"
Lillian offered an awkward smile and nodded politely. "If it's convenient, of course."
However, they all knew that under normal circumstances, it wouldn't be convenient at all. She and Sebastian were living entirely separate lives now. While she had no personal grievances against his parents, maintaining regular contact wouldn't be appropriate. It would only leave room for unnecessary speculation.
Furthermore, Leonard's parents seemed incredibly warm and approachable, and his family dynamic was wonderful.
